| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 7, 2007 Appearance: Pours out very, very reddish. Almost a solid red. If I hadn’t poured it myself, I’d swear it was cranberry juice. The head is really just a sparse ring of foam around the edge of the glass.
Smell: The aroma, though unlively, has some sweet malt notes as well as some nuttiness. All with a sour slant.
Taste: Very Lipton-like! Sweet. Faintly fruity. Bitterness only comes across in the spicy finish. However, all flavors are at worst watery and at best muted.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Lighter than I’d like in almost all aspects, though the color was interesting (too bad I don’t buy beers based on color).
Drinkability: If you have a brown ale you’re already happy with, stick with it, you’re not missing anything by passing this beer by.
Listen, breweries: Just bring the flavor. Your drinkers will appreciate it, and you will become a better brewery more quickly. I’m just putting that out there. nearbeer (1880), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 1, 2007 Updated: Jan 29, 2009Bottle, best before 06907. Pours unclouded, dark brown with a small head that tries to hang. Aroma is earthy molasses, raisins, and cooked vegetables, with just a hint of peppery-spicy-cinnamon-citrus hop. Flavor is mostly the the same combination, with molasses-on-crackers and roasted nuts (malt) winning out. Palate is light-medium bodied, tingly and dry. Great classic brown that would be a good session beer too. This one is really underrated. PorterPounder (3148), Tallahassee, Florida, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 19, 2007 12 oz bottle. Pours orange brown with small ivory head. The aroma is light caramel, faint sugar, and straw. The flavor is light caramel with a hint of raisin, some very subdued bitterness, and a clean finish. Lackluster, but would be a really good session beer. sneagrams3 (1762), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 11, 2007 12oz bottle. Ruby garnet filtered hue. Spiral ring of off-white head. Great nose. Cocoa and toffee. Nutty and raisins. Medium bodied and sweet. Good malt roast. Long lingering flavor. Nutty malts with a nice dry finish. Touch of vanilla smoothness. A little more raw, but a solid brew! Fuller aspects and dimensions. Brownies with a tart sour sticky finish. Great cocoa note. Wonderful stuff! Braincage1 (143), Cary, North Carolina, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 4, 2007 Bottle. Poured a dark caramel color with a very thin tan head. Definite aroma of chocolate malts and the same can be said of the taste. Also hints of nuts and caramel with a smooth easy finish. A good beer.
