jb (1024), Rochester, New York, USA Nov 6, 2009 Sweet nose, cola, nuts, chocolate. Dark brown, tan head. Palate is tangy, sweet, not real oily like I prefer in a sweet stout. A bit gritty, hoppy, maybe a tad out of balance, still pretty decent. Surprisingly, not too bad of a stout. Decent sweetness and fairly mellow. williamherbert (461), Syracuse, New York, USA Jul 28, 2009 Appearance is clear brown, with red at the edges. Not much head, if any. The smell is sweet caramel and toffee. Some sour grape and raisin. Not much of the roasted, grainy balanced I had anticipated for this style. The taste is grapes, dates and prunes. Very sweet, with a hint of roasted caramel malts. Sweet plums. A tad musty but not bad. Some hints of grainy oats as it warms up. Dark berries. The feel is smooth like honey. Not as dry as I had expected. It’s very sweet and not nearly enough roasted balance. More like a dark or brown ale. unclemike (834), Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA Jul 8, 2009 sampler pack Bottle. Pours dark dark red brown, tan head. Aroma is licorice, molasses, nuts, and malt. Flavor is molasses, caramel, malt, nuts, coffee. Light to medium body for a sweet stout.
curly (548), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Jun 23, 2009 Pours solid brown with a foamy tan head. Toast bread and nutty caramel aroma. The oatmeal seems to be more pronounced in this beer than most oatmeal stouts but it’s not unpleasant. Very roasty and toasty with some choc and coffee tones as well. Overall pretty good but I wish it had a thicker body. shawnm213 (882), South Bend, Indiana, USA Apr 29, 2009 bottle. pours dark with a nice fluffy tan head. some milk chocolate, roasted malts. creamy mouthfeel. not bad. biznizness (930), Mooresville, North Carolina, USA Apr 23, 2009 Beer of the month club last month. Tasty stout. Had this one last week but I wanted to sit on 800 for a bit... you know, let it LINGER. jcr (1136), Jasper, Indiana, USA Apr 18, 2009 Bottle. Black body with a tan-colored head, moslty lasting. Aroma of milk chocolate, roasted malt, latte and toast. Moderately sweet, lightly bitter flavor, but the finish is lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. The moderate bitter bite is a nice contrast to the sweet malts. Medium body with a creamy texture. Mild carbonation. Fairly straightforward oatmeal stout, but well done.
