Beautiful rich color and nice head that laces throughout the glass. Taste is full of flavor and body with sweet undertones, but not overly filling like some stouts. !! | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 15, 2005 Pours a deep ruby with a medium tan head. Cocoa, chocolate and burnt coffee in the nose. Flavor is nicely roasty and mildly sweet, with a coffee bean bitterness in the finish. A little more body and a smoother carbonation would benefit this already good brew. I enjoyed this and will have it again. rajendra82 (703), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 5, 2005 Poured out of the 12 oz. brown bottle, this beer looked opaque black in the pint glass, and had a short lived thin head atop it. Very classic stout smell with roasted grain notes flirting with burnt coffee. I could also detect some dark chocolate in the nose. The taste was roasty but mild, and did not venture too far off the beaten path for the style. Slight sourness was present, and a late kick of hop bitterness finished things off. It was soft on the palette, but a bit too thin bodied to be called lush. Lingering sweet aftertaste was welcome. A good product overall, but better stouts can be found without a whole lot of effort. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 20, 2005 Deep brown, almost black pour with just about zero head. Poured with a cola-like consistency. Aroma was pleasant, but weak... with light oats and roasted chocolate malts mostly. Some barley, oats, chocolate, and other roasted flavors were picked up in the mouth. Not overly complex, but tasty. Quite light a tad watery on the palate. Finish had a nice array of higher-Alpha hops... and a bit of caramelly sweetness. jde123 (715), Washington, Washington DC, USA

I was wrong, dead wrong. This wonderous concoction has the same matly oaty hoppy goodness but without the sometimes overwhemlming sweetness. Extremely enjoyable, smooth and flavorful. A classic. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 24, 2005 What a tasty surprize! Picked up as a single in a "bargain bin" at a liquor store, I end up with a delightful, creamy sweet stout. Dark brown in body with a slender pale tan head, this has an aroma filled with chocolate and roasted malts. Creamy in the mouth, the roasted malt predominates, along with a dash of burnt barley, milk chocolate, and a nice balance of herbal hops. The finish is sticky sweet chocolate malt. Simple and straightforward, but Good stuff.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 2, 2005 This was so much better than the IPA it’s hard to believe it’s from the same place. Pours a dark chocolate bar color. Roasted coffee bitter nose. The coffe taste dominates with oat, hay, wheat, and a heafty amount of chocolate thrown in. A bit sweet and lively. While not outstanding it definitely is solid.
