| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 7, 2007 Poured from the 12 oz bottle. This is dark roasty brown with a thin tan head. The aroma is distinctly baking chocolate and coffee grinds. In the flavor, the bitterness of the baking chocolate is still there, but there’s also a sweet flourish and light "bodiedness" to it that did not live up to the aroma’s promise. The flavors mellow more as the beer warms and the palate adjusts. OK, but somewhat a disappointment. (#2689, 2/7/2007) holdenn (1443), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 10, 2007 12 oz. Brown black color with a small fizzy head. Sweet sugar aroma and bakers chocolate. Light roasted flavors, very light on the palate and sweet, too sweet. It is what it is, and its simply alright. Ungstrup (15361), Frederiksberg, Denmark
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 8, 2007 A red-brown beer with an OK brown head. The aroma is quite light, what is there is sweet with notes of chocolate. The flavor is sweet with light notes of chocolate, and with a good hop bitterness to balance the sweetness. The body is quite light, so it reminds me mostly of an English style Porter. drewbeerme (2302), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Jan 2, 2007 12oz bottle (date unknown), sample from holdenn. pours a dark ruby with big head. aroma is really smoky, stale, moth balls, boy is this aroma gross. i think it actually tastes like a goose, stale malts, rust, rubber, and mild milk chocolate. despite my description the taste isn’t the worst beer i’ve had, it’s drinkable but i dont want to drink it. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Dec 22, 2006 From a 12 oz. bottle with a freshness at the bottom right corner of label.
Poured a ruby hued black with a foamy, rocky tan head that slowly settled into a creamy, sudsy lacing.
Kind of a strange aroma, berry fruity with tobacco, and a light roasted chocolate.
Good even carbonation and a crisp, slick, smooth medium-light bodied mouthfeel.
Tastes of watery roasted chocolate malts with some traces of caramel, a berry fruitiness, a tobacco leafy bitterness, a little barley towards the end and a dryish, thin roasted malty finish with a lingering leafiness.
An o.k. porter, but I’m glad I purchased this out of the singles rack.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 3, 2006 When held up to the light, this beer is indeed a deep ruby-brown color. It looks similar to what it says it is on the bottle: a black and tan. Aroma is minimal: roasted coffee, bitter chocolate, slight hops. Flavor is much more porter, but the body is kind of light for the style. Very quaffable and unoffensive. I generally like those qualities in a beer. Nothing close to spectacular, but nothing close to a drain pour either. A nice, middle of the road porter.
