Commercial Description:
Appearing almost black at first glance, Wild Goose Porter is actually a deep ruby-red ale. Roasted malt flavors accent its velvety finish.

Expecting something a bit deeper in this porter. Decent red hue with a nice head. Inviting to the eyes, but the palate falls a bit short. Almost to light for my taste, but again still worth a try

Dark brown appearance with red highlights, so the self proclaimed deep ruby red color mentioned on the label was apt. The head was beige in color and formed to a two finger thickness quite readily, and was sustained for a while. Aroma was sweet and floral, and not quite typical of a Porter due to a lack of roastiness. Taste was also showing close affinity to a Brown Ale with a chocolate with nuts flavor. Not much graininess, sourness, or astringency. While the mild taste, although atypical of the style, was pleasant enough, the mouthfeel was tinny and hollow. Easy on the tongue, but unsatisfying on the deeper level.

12 oz bottle: billowy off tan foam above the mostly clear (thought dark) garnet brown body. The diminishing head never truly leaves, and gives off a nice roastiness, along with charred dark fruits, malted dough and a touch of anise. Pretty thin palate that delivers decent flavour without the full body that great porters sport. Sticky finish that leaves bitter cherries, toasted pine nuts and blueberries on the tongue and I find myself licking my lips in satisfaction from this pretty average beer.

Smells of coffee. The body is a little thin and and watery. Malt and roasted favor on the palate. Easy drinking. However there are better beers of the style out there.

$1.49 for a 12-oz single. Brown in color (not almost black as the description says), no head. Malty aroma and smooth malty taste. Nothing special, but decent.

Poured from a bottle. Pours a dark brown. Aroma screams malts. Very smooth palate. Flavor is nice and malty but nothing spectacular or unique. Easy drinking porter.
