Commercial Description:
This frothy ale is made with 9 different specialty malts, 100% English Fuggle hops, and nearly 300 pounds of real pumpkin. During and after the boil, we add a subtle blend of fresh-ground spices, resulting in a very smooth and malty, complex ale with noble hop and spice aroma. We hope you will get a chance to enjoy this limited offering, and no, it’s not just a glass of grandma’s pumpkin pie, it’s still a beer.

Clear amber/orange appearance with an average size white head and decent lacing. Muted aroma, malty, with little evidence of the pumpkin. Flavor is sweet malt, modestly hopped and well spiced. Pumpkin becomes more evident as it warms and lingers in the aftertaste. Pleasant, spicy finish.

Bottle. It pours a copper color with a small head. There are lots of spices and caramel in the taste, and it is fairly sweet, but it doesn’t remind me of pumpkin. I wouldn’t go out of my way for this one.

Appearance: Pours a dark orangey-amber body with a small, foamy off-white head. Smell: Aroma of pumpkin and light caramel malts with a mild hint of cinnamon. Taste: An upfront light caramel malt flavor coincides with the spices, giving it a semi-sweet taste. Mild pumpkin flavor with the accompanying vegetal notes. Faint hop presence. Finishes with a subdued sweetness and a lingering spiciness. Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: A fairly pleasant pumpkin ale.

12 oz bottle. Pours to a bright orange color, with a rocky, white head, and a moderate carbonation. The nose on this beer is nice, with light spicy aroma, of nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, and all spice. The palate is a touch lean, with flavors of sweet malts, and caramel, with just a trace of "squashy" pumpkin flavor. This beer finishes with more caramel malt flavor up front, then ends with some spicy flavors of nutmeg, clove, and cinnamon that lingers. I’m a big fan of pumpkin ale, and this beer was a decent enough version, but I have enjoyed other examples of the style much better than this one. Worth a try if you are a fan of Pumpkin Ale, but I would rather go with Dogfish Head, Smuttynose, or Post Road over this one.

12 oz bottle. Pours a darker orange than most pumpkins, has some ruby to it. Head is white and fluffy. Stronger aroma of nuts, spices and malt. Taste is strong as well, with decently high ABV, strong malt, fall spices. Tastes less of pumpkin though. In the end its a more hopped up and strong version of a pumpkin, minus the pumpkin. Kind of weird.

Bottle. Pours copperish, with a white fluffy head. Aroma of malts, and spices. Flavor has a nice blend of pumpkin and spices, not overpowering. Nice malt in the finish. Lingering spice (nutmeg) and sweet caramel in the end as well. All of the flavors are nice together. Medium bodied. Nice. Not over done.

Bottle. Pours a orangish copper color with a one finger head that dies to a thin frothy coating very quickly. Aromas have a hint of pumpkin, and pie spices and sweet malt flavors. Flavor is about what you would expect... lots of pumpkin pie with all it’s spicy wonder, but then thins fall apart a bit as the overly sweet malt takes over and leaves a bit of a cloying aftertaste that leaves a bit to be desired. Still, it’s pleasant enough even if it does little to separate itself from the growing hoard of pumpkin beers.

Bottle courtesy of slob. Pours copper with a thin white head. Smells of sweet malt. Tastes tangy with some earthy hints. A good beer, but not very pumpkiny.
