Poured clear brown color with medium off-white fizzy head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Medium roasted malt aroma with a hoppy tone. Medium body with a smoth texture and soft carbonation. Medium flavor of roasted malt with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration.
Good interesting brew. LinusStick (1851), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jun 30, 2009 A so so beer. Aroma was nice. A woody earthiness with strong caramel malt and a hint of must. Pour was a nice deep dark brown with a pinky sized tan head. Taste was a little thin but the wood and caramel malt mix well together. This is not an oak aged beer, the woodiness is more earthy than in your face if that makes sense. Weak carbonation and a thin aftertaste. Butters (1651), Virginia, USA

Pours a clearish brown with fair tan head. Pretty bland, malty, a little cardboard. Lightly roasty with some chocolate notes. I would like to taste this again fresh. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 22, 2009 THOUGHTS: Nice beer, very British. A little too sweet, but the funk makes it interesting. A little barley wine-like. Yet also wee heavy-like. My bottle said the ABV was 6.3%.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, medium to dark, reddish amber with a small, off-white head that mostly diminished and left fair lacing. The aroma was moderate to heavy dark bread and caramel malt, light to moderate herbal hops, light leathery and cobweb-like yeast, apple, cherry, whiskey, candy, slight tea and lemon and slight smoke. The initial flavor was sweet and a little acidic; while the finish was a cidic an rather bitter with and average duration. There was caramel, cherry, apple, tea, herbal hops, citrus, dark bread and candy. The medium body was slightly syrupy and also oily with very fizzy carbonation and a light to moderate astringent finish. jvmiller (532), Bel Air, Maryland, USA
