CapFlu (3242), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Feb 16, 2008 (Draught) Sampled on February 10, 2008, at the brewpub. Thin body for a stout. Monir oatmeal flavour with a good graininess but fairly plain overall.
mabel (1246), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 1, 2008 [796-20071102] Tap @ Wild Rose (Calgary, AB). Dark malt and coffee chocolate aroma. Dark brown black body with a medium-lasting brown creamy head. Malt coffee flavour is dark roasted. Full body. Good stout, nice coffee qualities. GregClow (2286), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 19, 2007 Bottle (by hand, I believe? I got it through somewhat mysterious means...). Deep brown-black body with a thin tan head. Roasty aroma with some fresh ground coffee and a very faint tartness. Body is lighter than expected, with fairly low carbonation. Lots of roast in the flavour, with a fairly dry finish. Seems more like a dry stout than a sweet, to be honest, but still OK. tiggmtl (4155), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Dec 17, 2007 Plenty of roasted malts in the nose with underlying toasted and chocolate notes. Opaque black body looks oily and is topped by a dense, fine bubbled, tan-brown head that lasts well and coats the glass. Flavour delivers on the promise of the nose - chocolate and toasty notes underpin a dry roasty bitterness. Medium body is very dry with moderate carbonation although texture is perhaps a bit oily. Sampled on tap at the brewery tap room. jerc (3050), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Nov 6, 2007 Draft at the brewpub. Black body with a good creamy tan head (4+). Very roasty aroma, roast barley, modest malt underpinnings. Flavour is similarly roasty, fairly bitter roast. Mild underlying malt is a bit overwhelmed by the roast. Average palate is on the thin side of acceptability for a stout. Pretty solid, straightforward stout, but not entirely to my personal tastes.
