mabel (1673), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 3, 2008 [818-20071105] Tap @ Wildwood (Calgary, AB). Bit of soapy yeast in the aroma with some grain hops. Clear, dark red body with a quick foamy off-white head. Sweet throughout, flavour has grainy yeast malt and a bit of cherry in the background and aftertaste. Smooth medium body. Very interesting sweet aftertaste. tiggmtl (4179), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Dec 17, 2007 Sweet, malt forward aroma suggests caramel. Simple but effective. Clear amber-brown coloured body is topped by a decent, off white head that recedes to a thin, but lasting cover. Toasted and caramle malts with just enough bitterness to take the edge off. Slight butterscotch character rounds it out. Lingering sweetness in the aftertaste. Medium body with fair to moderate carbonation. Simple and true to style if perhaps unexciting. Sampled on tap at the brewpub. jerc (3217), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Nov 7, 2007 Draft at the brewpub. Crisp amber-red body with a small off-white head. Musty, earthy malt notes. Similar flavour with a sweet malt character, dry toasty caramel malt. (6+) Average palate. DuffMan (1962), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Oct 12, 2007 Current seasonal on tap. Clear red-brown, pale tan head. Sweet caramel aroma, straightforward, a hint of fruitiness. Same flavour profile on the palate. Maybe I needed to spend more time with this one, let it warm up a little, but this came across as a pretty simple amber ale really. Not bad though. presario (2441), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Oct 6, 2007 Pint upstairs in the restaurant with half a lamb burger and half of a bison burger. The lamb won. Copper colour. Lasting light head and an artful foam lace. Steady light carbonation. Malty scent with a hint of peat. A tasty beer with good body. Chewy woody flavour, light sweetness and a touch of peat. A nice session ale that you could drink for an afternoon.
