Tipsy_McStager (818), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Jun 18, 2007 Maybe sitting in the lines for too long. Sparse aroma. Pours an amber brown, thin head. Flavour was dominated by a plasticy dicetyl. Hollow finish, with a trace of hops. DuffMan (1939), Calgary, Alberta, Canada May 29, 2007 Had this while watching the highlights of the Senators squander their opening lead against Anaheim to lose the first game of the Stanley Cup final. At least the beer was good-- clear amber brown with a scant yellowish head. Caramel butterscotch aroma, faintly earthy and leafy. Sweet toffee flavour with light fruity elements and some stemmy/leafy/earthy character that reminds me strongly of a classic english ESB, but with more carbonation. Peach-pit bitterness in the finish that makes you want to drink and drink.... I thought it was terrific. TimE (1023), Tokyo, Japan Apr 28, 2007 I heard steam beers are best to drink fresh too. OK. I am not sure how to describe thsi except a bit more complex than Anchor steam, but with the same annoying finish I get in steam beers all the time only more so. Iam too pissed to comment too much, except good for what it is.
presario (2397), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Apr 22, 2007 Not a big fan of Anchor’s but am told it is one of those that you have to have fresh at the source. Until then I have now tried Brian Smith’s fresh at the source. Dark amber. Thick head. Some lacing rings. Light creamy cereal aroma. Nice rough grain flavour mixed with hops. Good body. A nice flavoured lager.
