Bottle. Clear but nearly opaque dark brown with a 1-2 finger short, cream head and a weak lacing. Milk chocolate, toasty malts, some raisin - good general sweetness on the nose. More milk chocolate and dominant sweet malts, a gentle roastiness and a slight hint of dry bitternees on the finish. Quite soft on the palate, short finish and and abrupt but pleasant mouthfeel.

On cask at Paradiso in DuPont Circle. Pours an opaque mud with a brown frothy head. Good retention. Whipped cream consistency. Not much lacing. Aroma is subdued, weak, some toffee. Very light bodied. Taste is pomegranates, strawberries. Super easy to drink. Good dry hop bite. A little sour in the finish.

Sampled from bottle@Cardinal, Stavanger. A low grayish head upon a crystal clear, dark amber colored body. Rounded, well prononced malt aroma, with tones of roast, pepper and tinned fruits. Medium malt body, gently sour-sweet, with suggestions of spices, nuts and tooffe. Light-bodied. Smooth, almost creamy in the mouth. Rounded malty, light spicy finish. Light and harmonious, yet tasty. Session beer!

(bottle) Clear, mahogany colour with a beige medium-sized foamy head. Slightly sweet and dusty roast-malty aroma with caramel, cacao and a light fruit-character of apples, berries and citrus. Slightly sweet and bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Roasty malty, slightly nutty taste with caramel and subtle fruity notes; leading into a moderately dry malty and faint hoppy finish. By far not as entertaining as the Williams Bros Red, which I had parallel to this one. 22.XI.09

Big coarseish beige head. Deep dark brownish red body. Fruity roasty earthy aroma with peppery chocolate notes. Dry-sweetish milky roasty dusty chocolatey taste with earthy nutty notes. Very harmonic. Mid-bodied. Mild, smooth mouthfeel. Dryish earthy chocolatey aftertaste with coffee notes. Excellent! (0.5l bottle, Centra, Oslo.)

Appearance is chestnut brown with a large, lively beige head that is long-lasting and leaves nice lacing. Smell is burnt caramel and butterscotch, with a background of vanilla. Taste was like a typical dark scotch ale, subtle and bittersweet, with a dry finish. Very nice beer, easy to drink, interesting and amusing.
