sm89walt (433), Norwich, Norfolk, England Nov 4, 2009 Bottle. Clear but nearly opaque dark brown with a 1-2 finger short, cream head and a weak lacing. Milk chocolate, toasty malts, some raisin - good general sweetness on the nose. More milk chocolate and dominant sweet malts, a gentle roastiness and a slight hint of dry bitternees on the finish. Quite soft on the palate, short finish and and abrupt but pleasant mouthfeel. MesandSim (5790), London, Greater London, England Oct 18, 2009 A Mes rate. Bottle from Shamansburys. Chestnut brown with a thin off white head. A nice blend of chocolate malt and pleasant grassy hops. Good toffee notes, delicate smoky character and a good trade off between sweet and bitter. I’m inclined to agree with Sigmund, this is much more like a Scotch ale than a bitter. Faint floral hints in the finish. Interesting and enjoyable. Sigmund (2197), Hafrsfjord, Norway Oct 11, 2009 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger ABV is 4.2%. Chestnut coloured beer, big to moderate creamy beige head. Moderate aroma of malts, nuts and biscuits, hints of caramel and chocolate. Distinctly malty flavour, probably some caramel malts and chocolate malts have been used here, but the beer is not very sweet. Some fruit and moderate hops in the finish. Definitely a "Scottish Ale" rather than a "Bitter" - you won’t find many English bitters with this character these days, methinks. bobinlondon (786), Harrow, Greater London, England Oct 10, 2009 Bottle from Sainsbury’s. Attractive red colour with beige head. Aroma of milk chocolate. Typical scottish malt accent with less hop content than you’d expect from even a mild. A fair example of a rather dull style imo. RichardGretton (3131), Leicestershire, England Oct 9, 2009 Bottle. Dark brown beer with a strong head. The aroma is roasted and mildly chocolate, and the flavour is roasted, and mildly bitter with a watery chocolate aftertaste. Overall a nice bitter and chocolate flavoured beer. weaselkenievil (738), Cheshire, England Sep 25, 2009 Bottle from Sainsburys. Dark brown with creme coloured fluffy head. Yeast and malt aroma. Flavour is caramel malts, toffee, little chocolate and a slight hint of coffee, little fruit. I really liked this one. imdownthepub (5089), Banbury, Oxfordshire, England Sep 22, 2009 Bottle, 500ml, filtered from Sainsburys, Banbury. Dark brown, ruby with cream head. Deep malty beer with a lingering sweetness and yeasty, wet paper mouldy type flavour. There are hints of slightly old chocolate that’s been left out of the wrapper. Roasted malt in the finish, reasonable. berkshirejohn (1767), Bracknell, Berkshire, England Sep 11, 2009 50cl bottle from Sainsburys. Chestnut brown with a dense cream head; aroma of sour grain; sweet malty flavour with a touch of vanilla and chocolate; roasted malt finish.
