Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered.
A rich dark ale, dominated by the strong flavours of blended roast malts that are the foundation of this beer. Smooth coffee and chocolate undertones are complemented by the addition of late harvest cone hops, giving a lovely blackcurrant aroma.

Nose of fruits, wine and spice with hops, malt and some cream. Pours a dark amber beer with a thick beige head. Smooth and mouthfeel. Hoppy, with sweetness and finishes quite dryly. A very pleaseant and light porter.

Bottle from Oddbins. Near black with a reddish tinge and a slight, tan head. Aroma of chocolate and roasted malt. Mouth feel was light with more chocolate and roasted flavours before a dry finish. Good.

Dark ruby with a beige head. Nose luxurious dusty choc, tar, blackcurrant, ryebread, waxy cake and dark chewy fruit. Smells like a Baltic porter twice the strength. Deep silky chocolate smoothness, creamy and slightly charred. Curranty fruit, peaty malt and a teaspoon of brine. Lingering smoke with a dab of butter. These boys don’t let you down.

Bottle at Toms Ultimate Glasgow Tasting: Poured a dark brown almost black with a beige head. The aroma was sweet but had a smokey haze to it. The taste was burnt roasted malt with a dry coffee finish.

Very rich and full-falvoured considering the relatively light alcohol content. Nose of sweet malt - aniseed and burnt caramel. Pours very dark with a very thin head. Flavour follows the nose and finishes gently bitter with Lindt 85% cocoa chocolate right through it. Quite nice.

500 ml bottle, bought in Edinburgh. ABV is 4.2%. Very dark reddish brown colour, nearly black. Large and lasting tan head. Very nice aroma of roast malts, coffee and dark chocolate, hints of blackcurrants and liquorice. The flavour is first fairly fruity and slightly acidic, then a moderate roastiness and pronounced coffee notes take over. Moderate hops and chocolate in the finish. Relatively light bodied for its style, but definitely an enjoyable beer.

Bottled. A black beer with a short-lived tan coloured head. The aroma is fruity malts, caramel and very light roast. The taste is dry and smoky. A little fishy. Quite light bodied but still nice enough.
