May 11, 2005 Cask conditioned - handpump - JDW Northampton. A black beer with no head due to its gravity dispense. The aroma is malty and slightly fruity. The taste is light and smooth roast with good malts and a hoppy background. Reminded me a bit of Old Peculier. Good stuff.

Dark coloured with some fruit aroma. Slightly dry burnt roast finish.
2. Cask Handpump at the Penny Black, Northwich (JDW) 29/03/2005
Dark red coloured slightly rich and sweet on the palate. Some dryness in a lasting roast finish.

Mar 27, 2005 Dark brown with a ruby edge, small head and light lacing. Aroma was not very intense and consisted mostly of toffee and roasted malt. Mild mannered, medium bodied with a subtle, smooth, coffeeish, nutty taste. Finishes with a soft fruitiness that was only slightly bitter. Good session beer. (cask@Max’s in Baltimore)

Jul 21, 2005 One of those beers that hovers between styles. In the end, I think its more like a porter than anything else. Not that black really - more a deep ruby. The aroma is very appealing - coffee, burnt treacle, spicy fruitcake. Falls down a bit on the palate. Mild licorice, with a slightly sharp, bitter finish. Thin, vaguely woody mouthfeel. An interesting and appealing beer that, ultimately, didn’t quite live up to the promise offered by the aroma. Cask (gravity dispense), Battersea Beer Festival, February 2005.

Apr 29, 2005 Cask at Shakespeare’s Head, Holburn, London. Chocolately and malty, but with a milky texture. Didn’t not enjoy it. But maybe could it be a bit mroe bitter? Black colour with maroon tints to the head.

Deep brown, tiny off-white head. Chocolatey, fruity aroma - dark berries. Big esters in the taste, segueing to a pleasant coffee finish. Soft and refreshing.

Jan 1, 2005 Draught, Bon Accord, Glasgow. More a stout or porter than an ale. Very dark brown. Brown white head. Roasted, chocolate malty aroma. Medium mouthfeel. Long roasty finish, with good hop.
