Commercial Description:
Celebrating the Grand Illumination of Williamsburg each year, our Barleywine style ale is a massive 11% offering that takes us over 5 hours to boil. The long boil time creates a bold caramel tone and is balanced with our signature Amarillo/Cascade hops blend. Limited edition of 2007 bottles.

Bottle #501/2007. Poured an almost clear reddish-brown color with a small creamy off-white head. The aroma is fruity and sweet with some notes of caramel, citrus, chocolate and red licorice. Moderately sweet malty flavor with some light hops from the middle to finish. Some fig notes. Medium to full body with a smooth silky feel to it. Nice warmth with no real alcohol aroma or taste.

22 oz - Dark coppery crimson, light tan creamy head. Rich musty dark fruit and caramel citrus aromas lay on waves of piney brown sugar and molasses. Deep upfront resiny citric bitterness balances extremely well on core of warm sweet caramel coated raisin and fig. Rounded beautifully from beginning to end. Full bodied, medium carbonation, bittersweet finish. Best beer these guys have ever created. A great late night sipper...

Bottle. Mahogony colored with a large, soapy head and nice cascading carbonation. Nice caramel maple aromas. Tastes of rich maltiness, maple syrup, and grape. Super-sweet finish with a hot alcoholic burn. Maybe a lot of time would have smoothed out the rough edges.

Many thanks to MIke for checking my Want List and opening this! Bottle 721 of 2007. Poured rich, plummy deep brown with a tight cap of yellowy-beige head. The aroma was spicy with cherries and darker fruits over chocolate and aged caramel.. dark and inviting.. quite sweet with intriguing sour contrasts. The flavor found deeper caramel maltage with lesser dark fruits.. heavy alcohol presence on the back with lots of raw sweetness (cane sugar comes to mind).. a bit rough. Heavier-bodied with too much raw sugar and bite to it on the palate.. otherwise it flowed alright.

Noogfest Four-O

Bottle, courtesy brentfeesh. Tea-color pour, plenty of wet lacing on the glass and a good head. Some alcohol in the nose, caramel, prune and dates, some apricots too. Bright fruit flavors, caramel, some very slight alcohol, brown sugar in the end. Finish burns a tad, still not hard to drink.
