Kinz (1901), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA May 15, 2008 This was on tap at Capital Alehouse Midlothian. Cap Ale listed it as 5.5%, but in the brewer’s blog on the website, he mentions it comes in at 8.5%. I think the 8% seems closer to what I experienced, so that is what I went with. Brewmaster describes this as an experimental American Farmhouse Ale, an Imperial Cream Ale meeting Belgium. I thought it tasted like a Maibock. So I’m entering it as an American Strong based on the fact that it doesn’t fit in anywhere neatly. In any case, nice medium amber, good head. Faintly sweet nose of caramel. Initial flavor has a hint of sourness, followed by a malty sweetness. Slight drying on the finish keeps it from being cloying. The sour note I mentioned earlier fades as it warms and eventually goes away entirely. Not quite my bag, hopefully we can get some better information about this brew.

Fruity nose, caramel and a bit of alcohol, very light berry notes. Body is the full side of medium, a bit slick. Candylike sweetness, caramel and yeast. More like a one dimensional BSA. Light attempts at lacing.Very sweet, fruity aroma. The fruitness expresses itself as apricots and other stone fruits. Some caramel and the corn makes itself known. Definite caramel and fruit notes. The fruitiness shows the apricot again with some tart berry notes. Subtle grassy notes. Some astringent alcohol makes its presence known also. Medium bodied.
