scraff (1659), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Sep 25, 2007 Clear sparkling orange, thin white creamy head. Nose held notes of smoked vanilla, caramel, and notes of warm golden raisins. Flavor from start to finish is extremely well balanced with a blended smoked earthy nuttiness that rides over a nice fruity hoppy wave. Light to medium bodied, soft carbonation, smoked, lightly bittersweet finish. A good beer for sipping on the deck, grilling meat, etc... jjpm74 (2925), Connecticut, USA Jul 8, 2007 Pours gold with a thin white head. Smells of smoke, dry malt, some peppery splashes and hints of citrus. Tastes lightly smoky with some nice sweet undertones. eaglefan538 (2048), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jul 9, 2006 Poured a pale golden color with a thin head, weak lacing. The aroma was malty rich with bubblegum, light caramel, and light smoke. The flavor was all of that with some bready/biscuity notes mixed in. Mouthfeel was moderate, a little sticky/sweet. A non-traditional helles bock, but the smoke added a very nice touch to a pretty fun (but not highly drinkable) beer. Dickinsonbeer (2514), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Jul 9, 2006 I think the board said this was 7+%. Pours a very light amber- orange, moslty clear and a thin white head. Aroma is nice and malty- sharp pale malts, light bread, and some yeast- reminded me a bit of a maibock. Flavor is mostly sweet, bready, and light yeast. On the finish, though, there is a wierd slickness, and a slight tart bite to it. Almost like a sweet-tart. Other than the aftertaste, it was a pretty decent beer. I also didnt notice any peated malt to this. Immy (1559), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Jun 9, 2006 On tap at the brewpub. What an interesting beer! Clear amber pour with a big white head. Nose is malty and rather smoky. Flavors are more malt, and a nice, smooth smoky hickory-like flavor. Some peat tones as it warms. A touch of bitter is added for the finish. Really enjoyed this one!
