Commercial Description:
Wow… how time flies when you're having fun! This year we celebrate 10 years of brewing here in Lake County with our first ever Anniversary Ale. We decided to take our popular mainstay, Willoughby Wheat, and "grow it up" a bit. Well, we grew it up a lot actually! The result is an Imperial American Wheat. Clean and crisp, its distinctive wheat character gives it a very drinkable quality.. But savor every sip - this one can, and will, just like another year, sneak up on you! Join us as we begin a brand new decade of excitement here at WBC. 10% abv. 16 IBU's.

Willoughby’s tenth anniversary release was like a more alcoholic version of the Belgian Showers. It was easy to drink in many regards though at some the ABV does begin to show. At such high gravity it is not going to be a sessionable mainstay but I hope in the future this makes another appearance in some form.

Aroma / Appearance - Clear lacing clings to the side giving away the fact that this beer has much more alcoholic content than the previous sample. Underneath however is a similar looking orange coppery body with just a little less carbonation. Wheat, orange peels and malts stand out as the glass begins to thaw. If you weren’t paying attention you may mistake it for orange scented floor polish based on the aroma.

Flavor / Palate - The thick dense mouthfeel clings to every corner of the palate before working its way down the throat. Along the way it unfolds orange liquer, rye bread and esters. For 10% it is surprisingly easily to drink and was gone fairly quickly. The dry finish warms the throat even after the final sip making this a perfect way to transition to some other more complex options.

From the Winter Warmer Festival, I enjoyed a couple samples of this from the tap. Sweet, dry, malty aroma with lots of fruity esters and spicy clove. Clear dark gold color with a thin swirling head and dots of lacing. This beer was hot with a fresh alcohol bite, but not offensive. Lighter than expected with a pleasant dryness. The flavor resembled a Belgian Tripel. Banana, clove, orange, and peppery. The wheat malt is tasteful and there is a real great clove presence as well as a creamy buttery taste. Hot and powerful, this one warmed up the senses.

On tap at the brewpub, a preview of the brewpub’s Tenth Anniversary Ale. Larry is hitting full stride with what’s hitting the spot among craft beer lovers. Unfiltered version. Golden with a beautiful and moderate white soapy head, leaves good lace.Yeasty aroma. Only 16 IBU, well balanced with 27% wheat.Creamy mouthfeel, libert and cascade hops. Taste like a hefe hopped up.
