A decent Scottish ale I would drink this again at $2.50 but not actively seek it out. Good for the local community it serves a need though is not worth rushing to try unless you want to get yet another Scottish Ale.
Aroma / Appearance - Blackish brown in tone there was not much head, but then the glass was filled almost to the brim. Cherry hard candy, chocolate dipped beans, and malt are the three primary characteristics that stand out.
Flavor / Palate - Malty and lightly bitter it sits on the tongue before beginning its trip down the throat. Semi-sweet and fluid it washes away the previous beer nicely. A decent value during happy hour I wouldn’t buy this at full price. b33r (363), Cleveland, Ohio, USA

Aroma was malty but a little weak. Flavor had nice malts and caramel flavors. It was light and pretty easy to drink. dkoonce (889), People’s Republic of Athens, Ohio, USA

| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Dec 11, 2005 Bottle. Had this back to back with the better known McChouffe, also a scottish ale. It didn’t compare too favorably. Relatively flat in palate and flavor. Dark brown with a little head. A little bit of barn, a little bit of malt. Happy to drink it but not too memorable. Liked the medieval warrior guy on the label though. Black Douglas sounds tough. I thought his beer would be a little stronger. aracauna (2391), Georgia, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 26, 2005 Dark copper brown. Richly malty caramel and brown sugar flavor. A bit of dried fruits under that. Sweet, but tasty. Just seems to be a little lacking compared to other Scottish ales I’ve had. JasonG (700), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 16, 2004 Mild malty aroma. Small tan head fades quickly. Thin in flavor and body. The bitterness comes through nicely but is not balanced well by enough maltiness.
