RagallachMC (631), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Sep 30, 2007 Draft at the brewpub. Aroma: Roasted malt with a good coffee note. Light chocolate and anise. Appearance: Black in color with a small ruby highlight. Head was medium tan, small and fleeting. No lacing. Flavor: Roasted malt, coffee, light chocolate, and caramel. Picking up a bit of the oatmeal as it warms. Finishes medium-sweet. Palate: Medium-light bodied. Moderate carbonation. Overall: Pretty boring. One dimensional flavor, light mouthfeel and carbonation. Meh. TheOrange (405), Kent, Ohio, USA Oct 14, 2006 On Tap at the Willoughby Brewing Company, of course. Dark black pour, with a small dark brown head that dissapeared rather quickly. The aroma is coffee. You don’t smell much more of anything else. The beer is not as full bodied as a stout should be, but that really is the only down side to this beer. The flavor starts out as a nice roasty malt. Very mellow, then peaks to an almost completly coffee finish. Not a beer you can drink a lot of, but still very good. Dogbrick (2816), Columbus, Ohio, USA Mar 2, 2006 On draught at the brewpub. Pours like a glass of cold black coffee with a minute beige head and no lacing to speak of. Strong espresso and caramel aroma. Rich body and silky smooth, with a flavor like coffee with creamer added. Some roasted malt and hops flavors too. The finish is smooth and creamy with more coffee flavor and a somewhat bitter roasty aftertaste. I am not really a coffee drinker but I like this quite a bit.
