grebs (71), Ohio, USA Aug 10, 2009 Palate leaves something to be desired. No prevailing flavor and it doesn’t even look great. Very thin. I wish I could even taste the bananas, this tasted basically like nothing. Was just tapped so maybe I missed something or they mispoured my beer. Disappointed. A standard hefeweizen this is par for the course when Willoughby releases a style they know how to do. It’s not the best of show but far from being the worst sits squarely somewhere between average and above average. If this is still on tap next time I visit it might be a tough call depending what the other options are and what kind of mood I am in.
Aroma / Appearance - The cloudy dusty brown body swirls around the glass leaving a murky trail of white head. Banana nut bread and fresh banana slices put this on the favorable side of the style for me. A trace amount of chocolate accents the fruitiness very well.
Flavor / Palate - Nutty bread, day old bananas just beginning to turn yellow, and wheat blend into a smooth and satisfying mouthfeel. Creamy from start to finish it then sits comfortably on the palate. Lingering only a brief while this is not heavy in the least. The breadiness is much like that you get from a dinner roll or other cleansing fare. mabel (2530), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 9, 2007 [370-20070629] Tap @ Brewpub (Willoughby, OH). Some serious banana aroma. Hazy, orange light brown body with a medium-lasting creamy white head. Citrus hops flavour has some more banana. Medium body is a little astringent. Possibly over-bananaed, though I do like bananas. jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 2, 2007 Draft at the brewpub. Hazy orange body with a creamy white head. (3+) Big estery aroma, banana, in both aroma and flavour. Light lemon bite/wheaty tartness, particularly in the finish. Average palate. Tasty, serviceable wheat.
