bfgill (120), Tasmania, Australia Oct 19, 2003 Not a bad ale, wouldnt call it dark though, smells ok, tastes a little better, a bit of sediment. A tad coffee or chocolate, goes down the throat pretty easily. cheers
strappa (55), Hobart, Australia Jul 6, 2005 Nice Darkish not really dark but has a chocolate flavour to it so its not to bad moorilla taking over the brewing of it should be good for the beer Linc (736), Sydney, Australia Dec 29, 2004 I have to agree with the two head analogy, this beer is so over carbonated that even with a careful pour a 330 ml bottle overfilled a pint glass with head. As a consequence the aroma was mainly CO2 with some choc-caramel carried on it. The flavour was a very mild chocolate with some tinny hop bitterness and a rather thin palate, due to the over carbonation. mutant (839), Melbourne, Australia Nov 25, 2003 Clear, medium brown colour with a huge loose head and great lace. Wierd aromawhich is trying to be hoppy but is moderately medicinal. The taste is mild but again indistinct. I will be charitable and say that it might be chocolate. Pretty darn ordinary and at $4.99 a bottle, rediculously expensive.
Totally Tasmania? Maybe it's meant to have two heads? mullet (767), Melbourne, Australia Nov 24, 2003 Well first of all this really ain't dark. I've had darker bitters but it's probably more a brown ale. It still has a lot of the chocolatey, if not roasty flavours of a Porter, however. Actually I think it is remarkably similar to Jamieson Brown Ale.
Pours with a massive, pillowy head and the yeast sticks to the bottom of the bottle.
Aroma mostly powdery cocoa, with a touch of tropical fruitiness.
Flavour starts lightly malty, then gets sweetly fruity, alcoholic (!?!) followed by a harshish bitterness and slight sourness. Not outstanding, but OK.
