rudolf (1734), Buffalo, New York, USA Jan 1, 2008 Rich copper, very thin head. Nose is roasty malt, cherries, almost light flemish red notes. Flavor is meladonins, cherries, fruit, light bourbon. Really sweet cherry/maraschino notes. Very artificially sweet. Toffee, cocoa & marshmallow comes through as it warms. Rynoplasty (500), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Dec 30, 2007 Pours amber with a small off white head. Aroma is malty with hints of vanilla. Seems to have alot less vanilla bean taste than one I had last year at a bar, but still has a malty taste with a hint of vanilla in the background. A decent beer. PhillyHomeBrew (176), Forest Hills, New York, USA Dec 29, 2007 Light amber ale with very little head. Smells like hops and hops only. It also tastes like a ton of pelletized hops. desurfer (1067), Pinellas Park, Florida, USA Dec 28, 2007 Light reddish gold body, little head. Faint vanilla aroma. Pretty much tasteless aside from a cloying, artificial sweetness and a slight hint of nutmeg. This sucks, even before I figured out it’s an AB product. ebarnes (213), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA Dec 28, 2007 12 oz bottle
Pours crystal clear red-orange amber with an orange-ish abundant head that dissipates fairly quickly. No or very little hint of vanilla in the aroma and certainly no bourbon. It really tastes like a watered down, slightly flavored ale. Half way through, it’s nearly undrinkable. Shoulda bought a single instead of a six pack. JoeinUccle (902), Brussels, Belgium Dec 27, 2007 A pretty bland, dark amber ale with a sticky-sweet vanilla flavor. The vanilla is too much, and the beer gets cloying about halfway through. Neither bourbon nor oak have any measurable effect on the flavor. A little bit insulting. DragonStout (1380), Pataskala, Ohio, USA Dec 27, 2007 Updated: Jan 3, 2009Another AB product gone wrong. Please stop producing these beers if you cant get them right.Way too thin in the appearance and the flavor. No bourbon present or alcohol warming.Very dissapointed.ReRate on tap at Sea World. The fresh tap is better.More vanilla notes and bourbon.Still is thin but a much better brew fresh. zombywoof (355), Shawnee, Kansas, USA Dec 24, 2007 Bartender at Appleby’s poured me a tumbler to sample with the promise that it was a "pretty good beer". Didn’t know it was A-B and it wouldn’t have mattered. It had a sort of bourbon-like quality, it also had a artificial vanilla and paper-like quality as well. Thin body and a little sticky too. I ended up ordering a Guiness instead. I think I chose wisely.
