CigarsLoveBeer (153), Illinois, USA Mar 7, 2007 Bottle: Vanilla is present in aroma, with an alcohol and apple quality that builds as the beer warms. Some maltyness in the aroma as well. When one focuses on the good, one can say that this beer featured a nice sweet maltyness with a slight bourbon like bite to it before the swallow, and a nice combonation of coffee, cream, vanilla, metalic and apple flavors after the swallow. If one wants to focus on the bad, one can note the astringent bite right before the swallow that is a mix of too tart apples and bad tobacco. Also, as the beer warms, the apple quality takes over all other flavors in this beer. This beer showed promise, and was actually better than I expected, but still a miss... rmussman (905), California, USA Mar 4, 2007 A suprising brew. I didnt know it was Michelob so that kept my biases away. I loved the mouthfeel and the flavor. Its very unique and worth a try. I dont know if I could try it again but this was a unique brew that I liked. mj (4975), Colorado, USA Mar 3, 2007 Cranberry and cedar red hue. Empty nose, with barely noticeable hints of nuts, fruitbread and spices. Up front it’s common maple and light wood flavors, weak on the palate, light without being thin, and the whole oak/bourbon/vanilla thing is only noticed right at the finish. Not terrible by any means, but mediocre and plain. smartlung (154), Valrico, Florida, USA Mar 3, 2007 bottle from World of Beer in Clearwater - I don’t know - I really coudnt taste the Bourbon Cask - little vanilla but typically a pretty week beer - then again refreshing after working on the desk outside! RJBennett (52), Hibbing, Minnesota, USA Mar 1, 2007 toast, vanilla, red, amber, tan foam, medium sweetness, lightly bitter, medium bitterness, lightly sour, medium body, sticky, lively,
Definite vanilla presence, not quite what i like though Beaver (588), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Feb 28, 2007 12 oz bottle, born on 11/10/06. Pours a clear reddish amber with a fine light tan head that leaves some lacing.
The aroma is subtle - sweet vanilla and some tar.
The flavor is pretty subtle as well. It is mostly vanilla with a little bit of a spicy hop finish. It has a strange kind of tarry vegetal aftertaste. The mouthfeel is medium and a bit watery.
Overall, an interesting concept for AB, but a little off. It is pretty bland and watery with some off-flavors.
CaptKirk (175), Hephzibah, Georgia, USA Feb 28, 2007 Had on tap at Helga’s in Augusta GA. Very sweet aroma that you would think would be impossible to have in a beer, but sure enough, very sweet. Had a sample of this that at first thought not bad, then the sugary sweetness took over and realized that a pint glass of this would be too much to handle and would get old way too quick. Carmel in color, lighter then one would think for a cast ale. Long lasting head. Just can’t get past the sweet vanilla taste. Like a friend of mine said, it would be like drinking warm vanilla ice cream. Not high on my list of beers to get. Quiver (139), Augusta, Georgia, USA Feb 28, 2007 Very Vanilla.... Very sweet... too sweet. I only had a sample, but I would imagine a paint would get old very fast. Disappointing
