Friday (20), Brighton, Michigan, USA Jan 28, 2007 I’m a sucker for flavored beers. I don’t know why. And this one is another one of those flavored beers.
From my mug, I can smell an amount of vanilla, and a very slight yeasty smell that may be similar to yeasts that produces strong citrus flavors.
In tasting this, the citrus flavor comes out stronger than the vanilla. But these two flavors overpower the hint a hint of malt. There is no hop in the taste at all.
The beer is a beautiful red color, with a very slight head of white foam.
It’s not a bad beer, and drinkable up to about two bottles. But the strong, sweet vanilla taste is what limits the amount I could drink in a sitting JJClark (545), Roscoe, Illinois, USA Jan 28, 2007 On tap. Pours a medium brown color with a small off white head. Aroma of vanilla extract and smoked wood. Taste is funky and artificial. Not good! AdamSkillin (376), High Bridge, New Jersey, USA Jan 28, 2007 Yeah, I agree, it tastes like cream soda and is very strange. On tap at Ron’s Landmark We Only Serve Anheuser Garbage Inn in Netcong, NJ. StLsportsfan (35), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Jan 28, 2007 I had this on the brewery tour yesterday. It wasn’t ’bad’, it just wasn’t a beer. It tasted more like a cream-soda a microbrewery would make.
Taste of vanilla. That’s about it. Sweeet finish. You can taste the bourbon if your looking for it. shigadeyo (2210), Harrison, Ohio, USA Jan 25, 2007 I have a dozen or so Winter/Christmas brews lined up to drink and decided to include this beer from Anheuser-Busch just to be fair...
Winter’s Bourbon Cask Ale pours a clear red-copper color with a respectable foamy off-white head. There is a mild to moderate level of visible carbonation. Vanilla dominates the aroma with a hints of wood in the background. The most apropos description of the flavor that comes to mind is vanilla cream soda. After the initial flood of vanilla, some light roasted caramel maltiness and wood chip flavors surface. The flavor is moderately sweet and finishes somewhat more dry. Medium palate, not overly carbonated, slightly watery from time to time. Overall this really isn’t a terrible beer. Yes, it might be gimmicky and nothing spectacular, but at least the macrobreweries are trying to make something different. I can’t fault them for that...
12 oz bottle. Born on date: 13OCT06 DE77. scoobyluv (486), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA Jan 25, 2007 very much the taste of vanilla extract which is kinda weird for a beer. but considering it’s anheuser busch, i can’t expect too much. but it was good considering the makers. the best of the AB bunch so far which ain’t saying much dwyerpg (2519), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Jan 25, 2007 Had on tap at the airport in Ft. Collins. Much better than what you could expect going in. Can definitely notice the vanilla and bourbon effects. Decent stuff. PhillyBeer2112 (2084), Orange Park, Florida, USA Jan 23, 2007 Woo, yuck. Pours a decent looking reddish color but with a small fading head. The aroma is strong of bubblegum, and a little vanilla. The flavor is sticky sweet with alot of bubblegum, some banana, and even though that sounds like a nice belgian strong, its nothing like that. Cloying and weird. A bit on the thin side but that’s hardly the main problem here. Undrinkable.
