She didn’t know and said it was Winter’s. After a quick search for Winter’s, the snow man tap handle confirmed it was an AB product. Poured amber with a fizzy off white head. Had a decent cotton candy aroma with more candy in the taste with some vanilla. I didn’t taste any bourbon and no oak either. Mostly just a watered down beer. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 4, 2006 Tap: Clear amber body. Aroma is butterscotch. Flavor is the same, easy to drink but simple. AB? Not surprised. tronraner (1933), Seymour, Tennessee, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Feb 12, 2006 Draught (at Barley’s in Knox Vegas). Pours mahogany with dissipating off-white head. The aroma is mild biscuit, German aroma hops, lemon, malt, banana, and yeast. The flavor is, well, interesting. It tastes a little bit like hair conditioner smells. There is some banana (the banana comes out more further through the pint), rice, sesame, and wax in there. The people I was with came to a consensus that it tastes like apple toothpaste; I didn’t really pick that up, but I promised I would put it in my rating, and four people agreed on it, so it has merit, I suppose. I didn’t think of this until I read Suttree’s rating, but there is indeed a weird okra tinge to it. Strange stuff. Not outright offensive, but definitely strange. | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 13, 2008 Copper color with little head. Sweet smell is mostly vanilla with some bourbon. Mostly vanilla cream flavor with hints of booze and wood. A malt driven beer here with a double shot of vanilla. 11706 Shag (1923), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Nov 30, 2006 A reddish brown appearance with a moderate beige head. A strong vanilla, caramel, and plum aroma. The flavor is very much vanilla with some caramel and bit of whiskey in there also. This isnt bad but it starts tasting like a vanilla ice cream cone after a while. It was interesting but I probably wouldnt buy it again mar (1916), Dallas, Texas, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Dec 7, 2007 not that impressed with it at all. ruby color with a small head that dwindled fast. lots of hops on the nose and a tad bit of vanilla but not much. Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Dec 17, 2006 12 oz bottle. Clear amber with a beige head. Sweet caramel and vanilla nose, light sweet bourbon notes. Smells kinda like one of those caramel candies with the white sugar center. Flavor is on the sweet side, vanilla and more mild sweet bourbon. Thin soda-like body. Vanilla really seems to take over in the finish. Weak flavor dooms what just might have been a fair beer. frankenkitty (1903), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Nov 20, 2006 Pours with a bright bronze body under a soda-pop-fizzy, off-white head. The fact that it is similar in color to whisky is probably the only allusion to a "bourbon barrel" that I’d found. I’m inclined to wonder if "aged on bourbon barrel oak" simply means that it’s aged on the same oak they make the barrels from... not aged in barrels that actually contained any bourbon. (These are the same guys famous for their "beechwood aging", right?) Anyway, the entire aroma gets overpowered by vanilla. A mild nutty, sourness in the flavor also gets a smack-down from sweet, cream soda/vanilla bean with dry touches of cinnamon at the finish. Sharp mouthfeel, gassy afterwards. This beer is too cloying by itself and too odd to be paired with food. As a whole, think: "overfiltered brewpub-seasonal Vanilla Cream Ale with an excess of force-carbonation."
