I had no idea this was an AB beer, and although I am glad they are finally dabbling in styles other than bland, fizzy, yellow lagers, I am quite surprised at how amateurish this beer tastes. At first whiff, dry aroma with some hints of roasted malt. But, when I breath more deeply, has some sweetness somewhat reminiscent of bourbon. However, the bourbon aspect is very faint, and not detectable at all on the palate, nor are any cask-like qualities. Reddish amber, clear body with no visible carbonation. Small, off-white head and no lace. Has some off flavors. Tastes like some kind of cookie or biscuit; a McGriddles breakfast sandwich comes to mind. Blueberry muffin? Very strange. jake65 (1725), Williston, North Dakota, USA

Virtually no aroma other than a malty sweetness and some hints of vanilla. Taste is more sweeter with vanilla and malt, hints of bitter. Thin body and not much character. lithy (1725), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Light smoky aroma, bourbon, malt, and vanilla. Taste is tons of vanilla, thin woody and smoke. The vanilla is nice but unbalanced. SudsMcDuff (1693), was CapeTown,SA-now Houston, Texas, USA

Clear amber color. Slight vanilla nose. Light-medium carbonation and light-medium bodied. Flavor is sweet, smooth vanilla and some hops, kind of like a vanilla coke without the fizz but with hops. Not like any cask ale I have tasted, no hints of bourbon. $1.75 for a 12oz from Barb’s Beer Emporium Concord, NH.

| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Jan 13, 2007 Small tan head that settles out quickly, lacing is spotty. Clear, deep amber color. Surprisingly attractive! Nose of vanilla and cherry cough medicine. Body is med/light somewhat creamy. Vanilla extract flavor dominates. No bourbon flavor or oak to really speak of. Maybe a hint of caramel malt. Lightly sweet, candyish flavors of vanilla and cherry. Finish is almost dry, thin and vanilla-y. Luckily i did,nt have to drop a $1.75 on this as a friend from work turned me on to one. Thanks Tommy! Odeed (1675), Bakersfield, California, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 20, 2009 12 oz bottle someone left behind at the New Years Eve party. Pour is clear golden auburn with a one inch off white head. Nice settling on the pour, faint patchy lacing. Aroma of dusty, nutty maltiness. Some tinny metallic notes as well. Upon initial smell, I really did not pick up on any of the vanilla or Bourbon listed on the label. Taste is sour maltiness, transitioning to sweet caramel nutty, then some of the vanilla and finally something akin to boozy cherry. Its not booze or cherry, necessarily, almost like a simulated taste of the two. Towards the end of the glass, this tasted almost exactly like vanilla coke. To their credit, these flavors do meld together well. As it warms, the vanilla is really the dominant flavor. It tastes a little artificial, like sweetener used in soda pop. Palate is medium, smooth, medium carbonation with an artificial sweetener and slight iced tea finish. Kinda weird, but not really poorly made.
