During even the coldest of weather, warm up to the smooth, robust taste of our Winter’s Bourbon Cask Ale. Full of rich aromas that you find in the winter months, hints of vanilla and flavorful hops, this is a beer that is great for pouring into a large tulip glass and enjoying with friends around a fireplace.

Draft at a local restaurant. (Unnamed to protect the guilty.)

I’d never heard of this crap; the server said was a new beer from Bridgeport so I figured what the heck and ordered one. Here are my tasting notes, written while still under the delusion that this was a Bridgeport offering.

"Tap. Pours clear light orange with close to no head. Very mild doughy malt aroma, basically nothing there. The flavor...ach! Imagine a flat vanilla cream soda spiked with that green sore-throat spray that clings all sticky to the back of your throat when you’ve got a cold and tastes so cloyingly nasty that you forget that your throat is burning and simply worry about how to get the taste out. The finish is soggy airport pretzel dough; nasty, but at least a respite from what came before.

"I suppose I may have had one or two worse beers in my day, but over the last decade, such have been blessedly few and far between"

I really tried to drink it, honest, but I ended up leaving about 14 ounces of the 16 ounce glass sitting on the table. I guess the one good thing that comes of it was the interesting experiment of a truly blind rating for an A-B stealth micro. It’s even better than blind, I think; I believed it actually came from one particular and usually quite decent brewery --- and I still was willing to put it within a tenth of a point of my record low after 750+ beers.

Draught. Brown body, very thin white head. Aroma is very bready, and sweet, with a lot of toffee, and caramel. Flavor has vanilla and sweet, skunk, caramel taste. NO hops. Another crappy beer from AB. Where is the "bourbon cask" flavor and how does this classify as spice/herb/veggie?? It should be in the crap category.

Nice amber color. Small, tight head. Sweet and malty with hints of bourbon and vanilla in the nose and the flavor. Liek several raters have mentioned, it’s like an alcoholic cream soda. Not bad, I guess. I’d drink it in a bar if there were no real beers.

Draft. Amber color in the glass with a creamy off-white head that did leave some light lacing. The aroma was very subdued but some sweet malts were picked out. The flavor was of malts, fruits, and some vanilla. Light body and a smooth texture. A decent change from the usual macros at the local restaurants that don’t carry micros.

(Bottle) Pours a reddish color with small head. Some vanilla in the aroma, with strong ’cotton-candy’ notes in the taste. Lots of carbonation. Sweet and unbalanced, but not bad if you like cream soda. An interesting brew, but not very good overall.

Tried this definitely w/out bias at Redwood in Seattle...had no idea it was the AB Bourbon until after I tried it. This is just wrong...Clear dark amber with creamy head. Vanilla coke aroma and taste. Tastes like flat vanilla coke mixed with ass. I commend them for trying, but this just doesn’t work.

pours a dark amber, with a quickly disapearing off-white head. he aroma was of vanilla. the flavor was vanilla. my notes say "too much vanilla!", so that seems to have been the dominating impression.
