Vanilla and pine cone aroma. Vanilla beans and sweet malt dominate the flavor. If there are any hops in this beer, they probably waved the flowers over the boil once or twice. Although there is some mild bitterness after the swallow. This is odd but interesting. I hate to give the Evil Empire credit for anything, but this is a pretty decent effort (at what, I don’t know). emerica56 (586), Bristol, Rhode Island, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 11, 2009 This beer pours a clear amber color with a thin head that fades rather quick. The aroma is subtle and kind of malty with some hints of hops but nothing strong. the flavor is kind of sweet and full of caramel malt and toffee. There is some good carbonation and for a cask ale it is not that bad. there are much better spice herb beers out there but this one is surprisingly good. skoisirius (584), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 1.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 6/20 | Apr 14, 2007 12 oz bottle. Tastes like Vanilla Pepsi on steroids. No bourbon hints, no woody flavors, nothing but artificial vanilla. Pretty fakey and pretty much a joke. Ahahaha...at least TRY and make a "bourbon aged" beer taste like it somehow. wcampbell (584), Central, South Carolina, USA

It tasted like a slightly strange octoberfest to me. Sweet finish. Light carbonation and fairly drinkable. railcat1 (582), Orlando, Florida, USA

It tasted like vanilla and booze to me and was not tasty. realizing that is is made by AB is not good either. i still have 5 left, so i will have to pawn them off on xmas visitors! | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 26, 2006 I can’t understand why so many people hate this. Perhaps because it’s the "Bud" brewer. Cut em some slack. It’s deep amber with a mild head, aroma is mild malt and vanilla(bourbon cask nowhere to be found in aroma or taste). Flavor is mild sweet malt and vanilla. Decent enough mouthfeel for a macrobrew. actually pretty smooth.Better that 90% of the Sam Adams stuff so I give em an E for effort. Goes well with honey roasted nuts. Not bad for grocery store beer. Worth a shot. jimmack34 (570), Lancaster, Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 17, 2008 Bottle. Pours clear red with a large frothy white head that deminishes quickly. Smells a little spicy and malty sweet. Tastes like aloit of toffee and very sweet. Some hints of cinnamin. Has a little bit of cask aged flavor. Pretty good beer.
