It was smooth, almost mellow. The first impression was a slight tingling on the tongue. The hint of vanilla was about the same as the hint of bourbon. Together they made a light, pleasant drink. The aftertaste was non-existent. It seemed light for a 6% ABV. I anticipated a lip-smacking, belly warmer and got a refr4eshing drink, nowhere near robust. Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 15, 2007 Bottle. Dark amber body with a thick ring of bubbles and a thin film of bubbles. Nose-dusty, vanilla, light wood and bourbon. Taste-cherry, light vanilla, marshmallow, nutmeg, macroness, very light bourbon, slightly corny sweet. Not as bad as I was anticipating. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 19, 2006 Odd aroma reminded me of bud but poured a darker carmel color w/ a nice little head on it. Palate was fairly decent, some ok coating, and things. Flavor was a pleasant surprise much better than expected some rice notes but a good amounts of carmel and some light vanillas in the finish. I really didn’t pick up much of the bourbon barrelling. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 29, 2006 Draft at San Diego Brewing Company. Aromas were very malty with some vanilla. Flavors were more malts with a strong and lasting vanilla finish. Very slight hop character here. Bourbon? Must have missed it. Not too bad really RSRIZZO (1369), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 21, 2007 Aroma has a light vanilla scent with a slight oak tone in the back. Color is a deep golden brown with light carbonation and a thin head. Taste is mild, sweet and caramely. Stating with a a light body it goes down easy with a smooth feel. Finish comes in sweet with a caramel taste that is backed by a nice vanilla flavor. In the after taste there is a faint oak flavor. As you drink it the vanilla flavor becomes more noticeable and it seems to become more caramel like. In the end I like, I think a Winter brew should be a little bold then this but considering that this is from Anheuser-Busch very impressive. ilovedarkbeer (1367), Dallas, Texas, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Mar 12, 2009 I really doubt this ever spent time in a bourbon cask. This is basically a mild or bitter beer with a ton of vanilla added. Notes of caramel, dusty cellar, cookie, and just a ton of vanilla extract. Honestly it is smooth, it is quaffable, it feels thin, and it is overly sweetened. I like vanilla and I like sugar so I can drink it but.....I am supposed to hate it because it is AB, which I am going to ignore. jhumphries69 (730), Tyrone, Georgia, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Nov 17, 2006 The beer pours a deep golden amber with a thin off-white head. The aroma had some sweet malts and a conspicuous holiday aroma that reminds one of candied hazelnuts. The flavor starts off sweet, nutty, and strong with vanilla. The middle of the beer provides more vanilla but slight hints of hops. The beer finishes medium in body. The mouthfeel is medium in body also. Overall, an okay beer but could use more flavor. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 30, 2007 Pours amber with a small off white head. Aroma is malty with hints of vanilla. Seems to have alot less vanilla bean taste than one I had last year at a bar, but still has a malty taste with a hint of vanilla in the background. A decent beer.
