Aroma: Sweet light malt and some vanilla.
Appearance: Amber in color with a nice off white head that sustained well.
Flavor: I did not read the description before I tasted it and even though the scent hinted at it I was quite surprised at the flavor. At first I thought it was coriander I was tasting but after going back and getting the bottle I realized it was probably the vanilla and bourbon oak melding into this taste. Even though it does not feel right as I feel there must some other spice added that is just difficult to identify. Perhaps it is coriander or ginger. I am simply unsure. It was sweet but not unpleasantly so. I also did not know when I first tasted it that it was an A-B product.
Palate: Very smooth and sweet. Not as full bodied as I had expected in a bourbon cask ale.
Overall: Beer snobs that we are we must begin to look past the brewer and the label. This beer should be rated higher than it is. I enjoyed it. Even if it was sweet and medium bodied. It was different but not unpleasant. I grew up near Milwaukee but even though I cannot say I am a fan of Miller I have a fair amount of disdain for Anhueser-Busch. Growing up where I did however gave me my appreciation for beer in general. All that being said I would drink this beer again as it provides a nice change of pace your ’normal’ rotation. This accually is not a bad beer, it just has way too much artificial vanilla flavor to it. Deep orange in color with fizzy tan head. The flavor was malty and smooth but the vanilla flavor started to make me sick after awhile. Taste like alcoholic cream soda. Slurricane (15), Plymouth, Minnesota, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 25, 2007 I have a dozen or so Winter/Christmas brews lined up to drink and decided to include this beer from Anheuser-Busch just to be fair...
Winter’s Bourbon Cask Ale pours a clear red-copper color with a respectable foamy off-white head. There is a mild to moderate level of visible carbonation. Vanilla dominates the aroma with a hints of wood in the background. The most apropos description of the flavor that comes to mind is vanilla cream soda. After the initial flood of vanilla, some light roasted caramel maltiness and wood chip flavors surface. The flavor is moderately sweet and finishes somewhat more dry. Medium palate, not overly carbonated, slightly watery from time to time. Overall this really isn’t a terrible beer. Yes, it might be gimmicky and nothing spectacular, but at least the macrobreweries are trying to make something different. I can’t fault them for that...

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Nov 30, 2008 Poured a clear brown amber color with small white head that dissipated quickly. Aroma was of bourbon and vanilla. Flavor was also of bourbon, vanilla, and some spice. Mouthfeel was a bit on the thin side. Drinkability was okay. Not the best beer, but I applaud Anheuser-Busch for making the effort.

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 20, 2009 12 oz bottle someone left behind at the New Years Eve party. Pour is clear golden auburn with a one inch off white head. Nice settling on the pour, faint patchy lacing. Aroma of dusty, nutty maltiness. Some tinny metallic notes as well. Upon initial smell, I really did not pick up on any of the vanilla or Bourbon listed on the label. Taste is sour maltiness, transitioning to sweet caramel nutty, then some of the vanilla and finally something akin to boozy cherry. Its not booze or cherry, necessarily, almost like a simulated taste of the two. Towards the end of the glass, this tasted almost exactly like vanilla coke. To their credit, these flavors do meld together well. As it warms, the vanilla is really the dominant flavor. It tastes a little artificial, like sweetener used in soda pop. Palate is medium, smooth, medium carbonation with an artificial sweetener and slight iced tea finish. Kinda weird, but not really poorly made. Brewosk (137), Illinois, USA
