Cherry finish. Alcohol becomes intrusive upon warming. Nice twist on a red ale. Not very dynamic, but it’s enjoyable. gameface23 (131), Haverhill, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jul 8, 2008 I had this beer on tap and I loved it. Then, I bought a six pack and I hated it. You really need to get it on tap. The flavors don’t translate in a bottle. It has very similar characteristics to cream soda. I enjoyed the strong vanilla flavor. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 14, 2009 Probably the best A-B beer I’ve had. It poured a 1.25 (I have smallish hands) finger tan head and, oops! Where the hell did it go? At least the beer itself looked alright, with a rich, dark copper colour. All I oculd discern about the aroma was malt, but my nose is not the best for this sort of work. The taste was again malt with perhaps something else going on in the background, but the "it" was too faint to define. The mouthfeel was quite right, likewise the aftertaste. I’ve have this again. kathouse (84), Nevada, USA

Too bad they don’t brew this year round. The only real pitfall here is that every bottle tastes different. BeerloverEJ21 (131), Georgia, USA

I thought it was very interesting and very tastey. Aroma of vanilla, bourbon, rootbeer. Had a distint oak taste, with hints of vanilla, hops, bourbon and sweet malt. I really enjoyed this beer. weeare138 (936), Collegeville, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 17, 2006 On tap at Ortino’s Pizzeria...
Appears a transparent dark amber with a small off white head that fades into a mild cap. Solid streams of carbonation pump up to the top.
Smell is of light oak, toffee, caramel, nuts, and brown sugar.
Taste is of oak, very mild bourbon-esque vanilla, and a light smokey flavor.
Mouthfeel is chewy, sugary, toffee sweet up front with gently hopping that lingers on the middle of the tongue. kimcgolf (832), Dacula, Georgia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 1/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 3, 2007 Putting aside for a minute the fact that this is an AB product (and I’m guessing most raters aren’t) this is not a bad beer at all. In fact, I’m guessing in a blind taste test, it would do better than many of the fruit, smoke and other gimmick beers I’ve seen and had. And note, I generally am not an AB fan.
Poured to an amber color with good carbonation, but absolutely no head or lacing. However, aroma was a very pleasant mix of vanilla, bourbon and oak, all true to its name. Taste was more of the vanilla-bourbon blend, which was sweet on the palate and warm in the finish.
The only drawback is that this would not be a session beer, as one or two of the vanilla sweetness is plenty.
