Bottle, 33cl at the Belgian Embassy in Oslo. It has a amber to ruby, semi-clear body with a big, off-white and creamy head. Dried fruits, caramel, malt and some roasted notes in the aroma. The flavor starts with dried and fresh fruits, then caramel and a nice bitterness comes through. It finishes quite bitter as well. Full body. A nice dubbel, pleasing and easy to drink. (080410)

Pours a dark but translucent cola brown with reddish highlights. A large, frothy, beige head slowly settles to a thin layer, leaving sticky cobwebs of lacing all the way down the glass. The nose is dry and fruity, with dehydrated prunes and figs showing amidst lightly sweet caramel, faint licorice, and mild dark spices. Flavors follow those same basic guidelines, but with candy sugar asserting itself a bit more in the foreground, transitioning into a dry, lightly sweet, vegetal sort of finish. The body is on the watery side, but smooth and moderately carbonated. The dryness and astringency gets to you towards the end of the glass. Its a decent brew, but nowhere near special.

Brought by my parents trip to Belgium. Not the bliss i was expecting. A slightly watery palate, very dry but with sweet aromas of chocolate, beets and licorice. A bit astringent too with a carton taste to it.

Large, dense brownish foam resting over a hazy, brown gown. Sweet spicy aroma mixed with a touch of liquorice. Rich in taste with details of moderate sweet caramel malts, dry cheese and dark fruits. Yeast and bitter fruits on the swallow. Rather lively carbonation (second (?) best at the Belgian Beer Fair in Oslo, 10.04.2008).

Another very good Belgian dubbel. Brown in color with not much head. As expected, malty and a bit sweet in flavor. I really enjoyed this one.

Dark brown colour, fluffy thin lasting head, full,..with lots of the whole garden, thin mattalic of old carton-parts. Very nice full charactar one.

330ml bottle (Cracked Kettle, Amsterdam)
Rich brown tiny head. Sweet coffee aroma. A bit fizzy in the mouth, but not harsh. Some burnt malts and drying hops. Odd hint of pork crackling from it too. Leaves a long resiny bitter finish. A hint of alcohol too while in the mouth.

ZBF2008: From bottle. Pours hazy brown with a collapsing tan head. Solid spiced aroma. Flavour is smooth caramel malt, light spice note nicely mixing in. Light warming finish with a smooth caramel malt blend. Medium sweet. Good balance.
