Bottle at Monks Kettle. This opaque brown ale poured with a rich beige head and an aroma of boysenberry syrup. There is a thin dark malt flavor, slighlty carbonated with a dry bitter finish. A bit disappointing.

On tap at the Bavarian Lodge, Lisle,Il. Dispensed to a stemmed glass with a hazed, dark brown hue and light, ruby tones showing through. The head was off white/light tan, frothy foam, with good cling to the lacing. Hints of yeast, caramel, light spice, dark fruit, and sweetness made up the aroma. The flavor was similar with a more brown sugar nature to the sweetness, dark cherry in the fruit notes, and a hint of dry, baker’s chocolate. The body was medium+ with a mild syrupy, almost sticky texture. An enjoyable Dubbel.

11.2 oz bottle. GUSHERRRRR!!!!! ... oh well. Pours a near clear glowing orange brown with a huge airy foamy sudsy tall froth off-white. Aroma is metallic, red fruit, some stinkiness, light infection, some bread yeast, pepper, stewed vegetables. Flavor follows, vegetables, cloying powder sugar and condensed-milk candy, light bitterness, chalky, some light infection. Corse larger carbonation indicative of infection, chalky, sugary. Definitely something wrong here... doesn’t live up to the other two witkap beers. What a disappointment.

Sampled at 2009 Bruegala. Murky, reddish brown with a small, rocky off-white lasting head. Surprisingly bland aroma - light straw and mild must with a touch of toffee. Flavor makes up for it: ripened plums, red apples, light molasses and caramel. Fizzy carbonation is a bit distracting however. Decent.

Dark and drinkable...can’t remember too much more than this being a nice dubbel

Bruegala 2009 sampling - Pours a cloudy, orange-brown color with a modest head that leaves some decent lacing on the glass as you drink it down. Aroma is a smooth blending of bread, caramel, straw, barnyard, and toffee notes. Flavor has a sweet apple, grape fruitiness with some caramel and a light sour funk to it. Modest density with a slick feel and a moderate amount of carbonation. Overall a good brew.

Bottle. Pours sparkling, hazy, dark brown with a two finger large, foamy and beige head. Nose of malt, caramel and dried fruits. Sweet flavour of dark malt, brown sugar, raisins and in the background some sourness too. Medium bodied. More sour finish wit a tiny bitterness.

Dark brown with a frothy head. Very strong dark taste for a dubbel, reminds me of a quadrupel, which I like a lot!
