chimp_lechamp (337), glasgow, Scotland May 12, 2008 cask at blackfriars- pours copper amber creamy head. nose is very fruity. lots of beries, strawberries, some hay, grass and earth. tastes well balanced, apples green, some grassy and piney lemon hops with toffee to balance. overall a good summer sessioner. hughie (2059), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England Jan 8, 2007 Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Light amber with a small white head. Hoppy aroma with a little fruit. Low bitterness. A fairly unremarkable session beer. ESBman (50), Andover, Bedfordshire, England Jul 22, 2006 Tasted by half-pint at the Queen’s Head, Chelmsford, 12/07/06.
Appearance: very clear and bright, pale copperish colour, coming with a thin beer head with surprisingly good retention; low carbonation.
Smell: nutty and berry-fruity aroma to start with, quite balanced, backed by caramely hints of malts, a syrupy edge, and an enticing flowery scent of hops in the background. Semi-rich.
Taste: a hayish flavour leads, as well as lightly sour-sweet maltiness with a nutty kick... gradually tea-leafy bitter hops develop at the back and linger well, but not quite intense in any sense, leaving plenty of chewy+tangy hoppyness in the finish.
Mouthfeel: softly carbonated on the mouthfeel, against an overall reasonably light body for a Bitter. The lingering hop-bitter edge registers itself as a quaffalbe session bitter. A very decent offer! Fin (2026), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Jul 12, 2006 Cask at Merton Beer Festival, Oxfordshire, July 7th and 8th 2006. I actually managed to sneak one of these on the Thursday before the Festival opened up and must say I was very impressed with this beer. Poured a mid brown colour and looked and tasted like a good standard British session bitter, an uncomplicated fruity, malty nice bitter beer. Quite a good body and really punching above its weight considering it is only 3.9%. The person I sampled this with said they would have been quite happy to just be drinking this all night despite the presence of the rest of the beers on offer and that I think says something.
