duff (5405), Sydney, Australia, Surrey, England Sep 16, 2004 Cask@Red Lion BF, Isleworth, London. Aromatic hops in the nose, flowery, with hints of honey. palate was quite citric, tangy and hoppy, dry an crisp, with a suggestion of honey at the front of the tongue, pleasane. harrisoni (5130), Ashford, Kent, England Jun 10, 2006 Cask gravity at Catford BF 06. Copper with thin off white head. Aromatic, not huge lavender. Something flowery lurks there though. Good in mouth with tea like flavours and juicy malts. Good aromatic bitter. chris_o (4409), London, Greater London, England Jul 10, 2004 Beer #1 at Dartford Beer Festival. As I arrived before SilkTork and Duff, I limited myself to those beers they had already had, but I hadn’t, to start off with. This was a pretty good lead off. Pale straw colour. The honey was detectable in the aroma, but not overdone. The flowery herb notes and honey sweetness in the flavour was balanced by a degree of hoppy bite, finishing dry and crisp. All the elements are nicely knitted together, producing a decent, easy drinking soft beer. Cask (gravity). I haven’t had any of the bottled versions, but I know SilkTork has not been impressed by their bottling skills, so Wolf beers are probably best appreciated from cask, where possible.
leaparsons (3903), Leicester, Leicestershire, England Jul 30, 2003 I had the bottled variety. This is a cloudy beer with lots of yeast sediment (not that I mind). The aroma reminds me of the cold-curing honey and lemon drink Lemsip. As for flavour - its mainly soda water blandness with some sweetness and a bitter lemon dryness on the finish. Bloated me up like a balloon, too. Not great - perhaps the cask version is better. SilkTork (3881), Rochester, Kent, England Dec 20, 2002 Updated: Mar 1, 2008Dec, 2002 Bottle Conditioned. Originally brewed for the Norwich Festival this is now a regular ale. The recipe has changed slightly, at first it was made with lavender honey, it is now made with lavender and honey. The lavender is noticeable, but the honey is too muted to make itself felt. A pleasant enough Bitter. [2.9]
May, 2004 Cask, Catford Beer Festival. Huge aroma of honey and lavender with a touch of yeast. Honey again in the flavour with slight note of vinegar to balance the gentle sweetness. Clean, wet finish in which a hint of honey returns. Nicely done. Lavender perfume remains in the mouth. [3.7]
March, 2008 Vintage 2001 from Shropshire. 500ml bottle. Live.</> Good hiss as I opened the cap. Nice fresh head. Poured carefully to keep sediment in the bottle. Lemony aroma. Some soap. Fairly neutral palate - with a suggestion of bitterness in the finish, slightly soapy. Woody bitterness very late in the swallow. Quite dry. Refreshing, delicate, and interesting. [3.4]
