Dry, malty, lots of flavour. Bit fruity, but clean. Medium bodied. Light amber in colour. Good lasting head. Tasty stuff.

Cask-conditioned (gravity) at The Royal Standard, Wooburn Common, Bucks. Standard darkish strong bitter. Light roastyness, fairly sweet with fruit and dryish finish.

Deep brown/ruby colour. Malty and fruity aroma. Rich in the mouth. Some citric hop bitterness to round it out. Long fruity, but crisp finish. Well-balanced. A nice drop for an autumn day. Handpump, Bear and Bells, Beccels, Suffolk, October 2003.

Orange-amber head, very slight haze; creamy, amberish head, irregular, going down lacey. Nose of caramel, toffee... and mint. Hops as in noble. Outspoken bitter taste. Spicy and bitter hops. Bit of burnt caramel. Medium-bodied. Bitterness keeps hanging around, but finish yields again some sweeter malts, taste of sugared fruits. Nice. 's Got a bite, but a tad unrefined.

Bottle conditioned. Chestnut red, excellent thick creamy white head with good condition and same lacing. Caramel malt aroma with some faint apple notes. Lots more spicy malt in the mouth with some nuttiness and a fruity yeast note. A little rough around the edges in the finish with the yeast bitterness taking over, but right at the end a malty sweetness returns.

The first thing you notice is the alarming lack of any head, but there's still a light carbo to the beer itself. This is a maltoriented brew with very little hop action. I found it one-dimensional.
