Poured relatively-clear shimmery copper with little apparent carbonation.. left a swirly dusting of tan for head. The aroma picked up some intriguing dark malty complexity to it.. toasty aged caramel and nutty notes in one layer.. semi-sweet chocolate spiked with some booze in another.. dark fruit sliding through at the end.. decidedly English hoppage.. came across a touch strong, but still very enjoyable. The flavor began with dark fruit and lesser caramel on the tip of the tongue.. chocolate and more drawn caramel across the middle.. some herbal and medicinal notes on the back-end, especially at the finish.. rather complex, but not great. Zero carbonation going on here, and I wish it had some.. warm and again, a touch medicinal. Interesting beer that I’d probably drink again. hopdog (5591), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Nov 11, 2007 Rich caramel malt and alcohol are what you notice upon taking a whiff here,a fruitiness then becomes evident,so much so that it starts smelling like a wine, first sip tastes wine like but the malt again takes over and some vanilla and sugar daddy caramel take the forefront, alcohol very evident, seems like its higher then 8.5. Smooth and strong,a nice enough winter sipper fro2218 (466), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

Aroma of sweet dark caramel and dark fruits with a touch of dough. Starts fairly full and caramely malty with some light oxidation and raisins toward a drier, more bitter finish. Pretty complex and drinkable, but could use some carbonation.
