Going side to side with J.W.Lees Harvest Ale was tough for this beer. It poured very dark brown and formed a rich head. Raspberries and fruits were predominant in the aroma. It was sweet and relatively malty with some depth. It had notes of chocolate and wood, as well as a punch of rhum. A good, complex beer, sure, but fell short in this comparison. Packed with flavours that come wave after wave. Great palate. A classic, deserving of the reputation. TomSpears (65), Norfolk, England
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Apr 14, 2004 A beer from my neck of the woods in the Top twenty as they say. And it's a corker. Woodfordes have suffered of late and are not as good as they used to be (in my opinion), but they are still one of the better regionals. Had this a few times bottled (not seen it in any of the pubs), and it's a genuine litte stunner all right. Lots of flavour, and a good old ale or barley wine. Probably more old ale really. Really rich and fruity and with a soft kick - not a rough kick, but just that edge of alcohol so you know what your dealing with. jazz88 (2239), San Francisco, California, USA

The light brown head is healthy, rich and foamy. The aroma is a true delight with plums, raisins, brandy, hints of vanilla, and a sense that it was aged in a wine cask. Nicely balanced palate that is rich and malty but not thick. The flavor has raisins, chocolate, caramel, roast, and a earthy malt character. Thanks to Nuffield for bringing this accross the ocean for me. fiulijn (7420), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Dec 16, 2003 Dark color, quite poor head. The nose is not impressive: malt, alcohol, brandy, apple. Average mouthfeel, a bit drier than expected, with quite strong liquorice, ending with a bold caramel and bitter almonds (and light phenol). Less than I expected, but thanks a lot to Jens (Ungstrup) for this bottle. Bov (5501), Bienne, Switzerland
