Sep 14, 2008 Reddish-brown with lasting, creamy brown head. Sweet roast, caramel, and dark fruit aroma. Sweet malt, roast, dark fruit, and caramel flavour notes. Very smooth with mild bitterness to balance.

Aug 31, 2008 [500ml bottle from The Little Beer Shop, Blofield, Norfolk] Gave this as a gift to my brother Jim, but he shared it with me anyway - cheers mate! Pours a deep ruby-black with no head. Tastes of liquorice & chocolate, but is a little weak and watery for the style. Slight bitterness, some malt. Follows through into a very dry, saddle-leather aftertaste. Not bad.

Aug 19, 2008 Cask@GBBF2008. Deep ruby red colour, not much head. Aroma is mild coffee, some dark berries and fruits along with mild sweetish wooden notes. Also some mild notes of raisins. Flavour is malts, raisins, sweetness and some mild coffee. Really pleasant and wellbalanced. Aftertaste is dark fruits and wood.

Aug 9, 2008 Cask at GBBF 08. Dark reddish brown, very still. Aroma is malty but also brings to mind fresh linen. Palate is a bit weak and the treacle character you’d expect from an old ale is lacking.

May 16, 2008 33cl bottle, hand marked "Gyle No. L242". Murky brown with a thin beige head. Really an odd nose - dark fruit, caramel, slightly astringent... paint thinner? Weird. The flavor, however, is delightful - soft malt and mild yeast, a tiny sour note, a bit of thin, dry bread. VERY interesting - I wish I knew the age. Thin body. Finish has just a touch of tobacco over the dry breadiness. Chocolatey bits late in the finish. Interesting as hell! Shouldn’t this be a mild?

Beautiful dark brown. Rich and malty on the tongue. Refreshingly hoppy after swallowing. Dark and roasted. Very tasty.
