Cask conditioned - Fur & Feather, Woodbastwick. Deep ruby colour and frothy head with a fruity aroma. Rich chocolate flavour with a hoppy finish. A great local beer.

Dark brown with a small off white head. Leathery, sour liquorice aroma. Sweet malty taste. Slight ashiness but low bitterness. In fact not quite as tasty as the aroma suggested it would be.

Bottle. Dark brown with a medium khaki head. Milk chocolate aroma. Flavours are mildly roasted, but chocolate is predominant. Quite light body. Easily drinkable and quite nice.

A Mes rate: Cask at Baker Street ’Spoons. Love it. Almost black looks. Lovely gingery old ale aroma with notes of liquorice, brown sugar and juicy fruit. Flavour is similar to the aroma with some coffee and a very lengthy finish with a creeping bitterness round the sides. Quite a strange one. Almost like a mild and old ale blend. Love it.

Bottle and served in pint glass: A deeper russet brown with a fading frothy head but did leave good lacing. The aroma has sharp notes of fusel alcohol, molasses, toffee, liquorice, earthy and dusty yeast esters, note of cardboardy oxidation and a fleeting moments of figs and pomegranate.

The taste is a mild smooth beer with a sweet chocolate and toffee malt base with leads to a light touch of acidity and cherry pit. The finish displays a yeasty and cardboard oxidized character you would expect from an olde ale but there is also that fusel alcohol found on the nose lingering about as well.

The mouth feel is quite mellow and shallow with little to offer the drinker other than a spot of acidic twang. What pissed me off about this brew is the lack of Fuggles and EKG character. Completely drowned out most hop character with the big twangy fruit overtone. I have had better olde ales than this.

Bottle conditioned. Deep red brown almost black, thin shortlived off white head and moderate condition. Gentle chocolate, liquorice and low coffee roastiness in the nose, quite thin in the mouth with a gentle coffee bittersweetness and a touch of fruitiness, low fruity finish with some toasted notes and a dry edge.

This is a very dark brown ale with a slender tan head that manages some fancy lacing. The aroma is damp spicy bread with dark caramel and a touch of dark cherries. Rather thin bodied nearly bereft of carbonation and smooth to drink. The flavorn is sweet and malty with a touch of fruit and a suggestion of chocolate. The finish is sweet with a light herbal bitterness at the very end. Good session material.
