Aroma and flavor of brown sugar with some fruityness, that’s all, I find it to be quite simple. The body is light to medium with a creamy texture and soft carbonation. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 8, 2006 Bottle. Poured black color with an average fizzy light brown head that diminished quickly with fair lacing. Moderate toasted , tart fruit and caramel malty aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture. Medium sweet malty flavor with a medium bittersweeet finish of short duration. Good start to a soft finish. rederic (1811), montréal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 23, 2006 Dark brown color, with a creamy tan-colored head, leaving lacing, with some flaky chunk of lees swirling around. The nose is one of sweet fruity winey, caramelized malt, toasted malt, dark chocolate note, hint of roasted coffee beans, dark dried fruits of plums, sultanas, figs, dates, faint floral hops in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a smooth dark chocolate malt character, with a nice roasted malt accent, black chocolate, dark coffee and hint of roasted coffee beans accent, yeasty fruitiness, leading towards a roasted malt bitterness finish. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 7, 2006 Almost headless, light molasses brown lots of big particles. Thick and malty nose is rather bready with mild notes of fruits (plums, raisin cake), evolving as it warms toward toffee toastiness and hazelnut/chocolate roastiness.. Spicy, herbal mellow hop profile bears an undertone of still green citrus fruit that is not necessary. Unfortunately rather dull bodied, almost flat, yet chewy enough to deserve a low 3. Surprisingly enjoyable, this is just pure marris otter juice as I imagine it, but the constant failure from most English breweries to offer good bottled renditions don’t help here where the yeastiness fail to uplift the flavors adequately. Nevertheless impressive to offer almost concentrated malt flavors at 4.6%. MartinT (5055), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jun 15, 2006 Any first impressions?
-This bottle pours like a cask pours into the pint glass, barely producing any head, but the veil created lasts onto the dark brown shine.
-An aroma of dark chocolate, roasted malts, and minerals is kept in check by citrusy fruitiness.
-Citrus pulp and powdery chocolate are bludgeoned by bready yeast.
-The very low carbonation and resulting relax mouthfeel are an obvious cask simulation, but the lean maltiness is getting drowned by the frivolous yeast.
What if you dig deeper?
-Cherry fruitiness is briefly found in the aroma.
-Mild tartness and dusty yeastiness don’t coalesce, and get more and more bothersome as you down your pint.
-Less than the sum of its parts, this is a dirty bottled beer, even if you try to keep the yeast out of your glass.

| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Jun 8, 2006 Dark clear brown with a few huge yeast chunks floating atop. Almost no head, and lifeless. A light murky malt aroma with nutty notes. In mouth, a roasted malt with notes of yeast, but no body, lifeless and sad. Bought from Bieropholie, for over 10$!!!
