A dark, reddish brown beer with a thickish, white head. A distinctive, strong, sweet toasted malt nose with a touch of caramel. The taste is a smooth sweetness of caramel, liquorice and malt. There is a slight dryness in the finish. Tasted at the GinTrap, Ringstead, Norfolk.

Aroma is of roasted nutty malts, with some maybe smokiness, but im thinking it could be the hops trying to come in. Taste is intresting similar to aroma with flavours, which i cant put my finger on, id like to try it again to re-rate it, but who knows when ill see it.

Interesting, good flavor, a little sweet in aroma, like a Heather Ale, but obviously is not. But I liked it a lot, good head too.

Poured from the bottle, a very dark brown with no head. Aroma is of sweet caramal with bitter chocolate finish. Quite complex in the mouth, with just a slight bitterness and lgith on the palate. Slightly chocolate flavour at first and definitely a nutty aftertaste. Could definitely drink this all night (which is a shame I just had one).

Earthy, burnt aroma, slightly tannic. Sour and a little husky to taste, faint hints of chocolate and burnt sugar. Thin body and strong lingering bitterness. I’ll have to try it on cask to come to a more decisive conclusion.

Bottle. Chestnut color with a beige head. Malty body with caramel and light nutty notes. Thin palate.

Bottle. Pours a very dark brown with a slight reddish tint to it. Smells of chocolate mints. Very smooth ale. Nice, clean finish. Not as heavy as I would have thought. No bitterness in the end at all. Almost seems to be a little flat at the finish. Not bad.

Bottle conditioned. Very dark brown with a creamy but sparse off-white head. Aroma has chocolate, malts, dark fruits. Taste is the same with a nice hop bitterness in the finish. Smooth and quite full mouthfeel, low carbonation. A very good old dark ale.
