A Mes rate: Cask @ the JDW in Peterborough while we were waiting for the beer fest. Hoppy grassy nose. Standard appearance but with some good lace. Very hoppy flavour with the expected crisp clean finish. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Bright honey gold color, with a multitude of flaky sediments of yeasty swirling around, with a fluffy white head, fresh barley malt nose, flowery peachy fruity hops, earthy pale malt, hint of spiciness, and orange peels fruitiness in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a juicy flowery hops character, with a soft piney accent, leafy and a citrus fruitiness, toasted malt, leading towards a hops dryness finish.

Cask, gravity flow @ the Fur & Feather Inn, Woodbastwick, Norfolk.
Aaaah, straight from the brewery next door. Poured a bright yellow gold with a light, white frothy lather that left some firm lacing. Very subtle, short lived aroma of fresh kilned pale grains, spicy hops and orange peel. Well pronounced, summery malts, fresh squeezed oranges and peppery, herbal, earthy hops dominate the palate. Nice woody, piney edge develops as it goes. Body is quite light, very sessionable, and had just a prickle of residual carbonation to make it move swiftly across the tongue. Finish is very spicy and fresh, firmly bitter, juicy and shows some more piney notes before tailing off quickly. This was Friday nights and Sunday sessions all rapt up into one. What a bitter should be, nicely balanced, simple, light and tasty. Very nice!!!

(Cask at City Arms, Manchester, 28 July) Colour is dark amber with tawny hints, firm off-white head. Nose is fruity with orange, apricots and a dusty hop aroma. Taste starts fruity with notes of orange and apricots, turns drier with a malty backbone and ends in a bitter finish with a nice dusty hop flavour. A bitter in perfect balance. Great stuff!

Bottle from GBBF ’06. Dark golden with a small head. Some sediment. Fruity, sweet orange aroma. Malty taste with a mid bitter finish. Good, honest bottled beer. Still looking for the cask.

Cask conditioned at The Swan Inn, Beer Festival, Islip, Oxon Sun 30th July. Poured a warm golden colour, nice bitterness little fruity, some citrusy zestyness also into the mix, good but not great ideal session beer. Good session beer, and another that has seen its score move up a notch or two. A6 A4 F7 P4 Ov13 3.4

Robe dorèe claire surmontée d’un minimum de mousse qui s’estompe. Arômes de bonbon, de malt caramélisé et de houblon amérisant. Saveurs céréales, de houblon citronné et floral.
