Not a strong hop nose, might be normal or due to slight aging. Quite malty for a IPA, whether its a double or not. Alcohol well hidden in 8.5. Finishes malty sweet. Somewhat subdued hop aroma with grass and grapefruit notes. Good malt presence with some caramel notes. Grass, pine and grapefruit hop flavors. Bitter and a little overly metallic (Cascades?) Pretty tame (by west coast standards) for an IIPA but a pretty solid IPA none-the-less. beastiefan2k (1603), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas, USA

Poured into a Pilsener Urquel tall thin pilsner glass. Copper colored with a small head. Alll hop of course. Not a blend I like however, too abrasive, unbalanced. Not a big fan of DIPA’s but this was even less interesting than most. lankus37 (1), USA does not count | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 18, 2006 A new beer in the Atlanta Market. A really nice amber color with a nice floral hop aroma. It’s a good combination of malt and hops with a clean hop finish. A good beer for supping as it on the heavy side of the scale. Not a session beer at 8.5%. Good with Pork (I drank instead of a Red wine).
Good first offering from a new brewer. pineypower (1102), Pine Barrens, New Jersey, USA

Taste is hoppy with a good malt backbone, but I found something missing..... rajendra82 (704), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 16, 2006 Updated: Jul 9, 2006The first high gravity beer to come out of South Carolina that I know of, this one can’t be sold there due to the cap, but apparently brewing it is no problem. Looks like, it will be sold only in Georgia for now. The label was yellow and green, with a decidedly 60’s hippie theme to it. The label called this an India Pale Ale, but with such impressive stats as 77.6 IBUs, and 8.5% ABV, I’d say this one is pretty solidly in the DIPA category.
When poured out of the bottle, this came out orange amber in color, and boasted a three finger head in the Tulip glass. Carbonation looked steady, but the body was clear, so I am not sure about bottle conditioning. The smell was a little mild for the amount of hops put in it, with a pungent spiciness, and fumy alcohol. Taste was hoppy, as anticipated, but the malts masked the apparent bitterness, and revealed more of a citric and spicy hop character. The very well done grapefruit rind hop profile was backed by a sugary sweetness and a hint of apricot. The alcohol was apparent, but the beer was much easier to drink than the strength, and the smell first suggested. The aftertaste was white pepper spicy and chalky dry.
A well done DIPA coming as a debut of a brewery is good thing. Hopefully the sales will be brisk enough to keep these folks in business. I’d like to see more from them other than the Pilsner that is also on the shelves now. mrindex (2), Smyrna, Georgia, USA does not count | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 16, 2006 Bought at a package store in Marietta, GA, this afternoon. Chilled the beer, poured it up. Nice foamy head and coppery color. Very smooth taste with just the right bitters. High gravity (8.5% ABV), but very easy to drink. Also tried the Woodstock Pilsner. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA

Taste is sweet hoppy and refreshing. The hops really did not kick up in this as I was hoping, but the malts balance it out very nicely. With just a tad more carbonation this would be a great example of the style. I would buy this again if I was in the area.
