Thanks to shp55 and/or CaptainCougar for this bottle. Pours dark rusty copper with a medium sized lacy white head. Aroma is maltier than expected, but soapy and solvent-like as well, with a bit of cheese or butter and an overall astringency. Kinda strange. Bigger malt taste with some plums, prunes and flowery perfumy hop flavor. Finishes toasty and lightly bitter, some wood flavor and soap. What is that soapy quality? Also, some brown sugar on the swallow. Big thick texuture, creamy and slick, full bodied. Not hot at all. Wish it wasn’t soapy!

12oz bottle thanks to CaptainCougar. Pours surprisingly dark for IPA, described best as a rusty cedar color. Clear (filtered?) and clean looking with a sharply constrasted tan head. Nose of toasted grains, moderately sharp, woody, nutty hops, some sap and some peanuts. Flavorwise mostly similar, with a nutty (peanut?) note, some astringent cedar, some toast, and some caramel malt flavors. A bit brash, not dank or juicy or floral like I prefer IPA, but still not that bad. Does not come off as 8.5% at all, for the record.

Bottle from shp555. Cloudy, dark burnt orange-amber body. Foamy, light tan head recedes quickly to a thin film. Minimal spotty lacing noted. The aroma is very subdued, though caramel malts do make a cameo. Hops are nearly indiscernible on the nose. The flavor is comprised of caramel malts, nougat, and incredibly faint floral hops. Buttered bread is apparent. There is no way this should be considered a IIPA, as the hop character is downright weak. The flavors are muddled together and tough to distinguish. Medium-full, slightly syrupy body. Short, weird sour finish that is mildly astringent. Not a very good IPA.

Bottle courtesy of aracauna. Pour yielded a very generous slight off-white colored head, very good retention, and excellent lacing. The aroma was piney, earthy hops, sweet toasty malts. The flavor was herbal, earthy, slight pine-resinous hops, caramel malts, tea bags, bready malts. Surprisingly thin for this level of abv, leading to a higher drinkability than many a dIPA. Alcohol is slightly noticeable, some floral hops appear at higher temperatures, but this was a pretty drinkable dIPA, like a heavy noble-hopped (not sure if that was really the case) IPA.
