Thing is, this one falls a bit short. Overly sweet, but with a nice roasty quality. A litte thin on the mouthfeel but interesting enough to revisit. chriso (4796), London, Greater London, England
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Nov 12, 2009 On tap at Kinsale Irish Pub, Boston MA, 29 October 2009. On the beer list simply as Woodstock Maple Porter but I guess it is the same beer. Clear, dark ruby/chestnut colour. Thin beige head. Ugh. Oodles of diacetyl in the aroma. Sweet on the palate. Rather sticky malt. Lots of creamy toffee. Definitely some maple syrup. Unfortunately the overall feel is quite syrupy too. There is licorice but it is sweet confectionery licorice. Pontefract cake sweets. It does introduce a touch of herbal bitterness but it is too little, too late. Didn’t work too well for me. Don’t know whether the diacetyl aroma is the norm for this beer (nobody else seems to have mentioned it) but I’ll give it another chance if I see it again.

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Oct 4, 2009 Well, there’s plenty of maple in this beer. Unfortunately, that’s about all this beer does well. Watery, bland, slightly astringent crystal malt. CaptainCougar (5517), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 4, 2009 Bottle shared by argo0: Pours a transparent dark amber mahogany with a well-lacing frothy off-white head. Aroma of toasty caramel and woody maple notes with a touch of graininess. Starts with decent fullness and toasty grainy caramel sweetness with a touch of bittering hops before a drier, earthy finish. An ok porter. thornecb (1790), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA
