Bomber supplied by the inn. There’s nothing like free bee in a fridge when cheking in. Thing is, this one falls a bit short. Overly sweet, but with a nice roasty quality. A litte thin on the mouthfeel but interesting enough to revisit.

On tap at Kinsale Irish Pub, Boston MA, 29 October 2009. On the beer list simply as Woodstock Maple Porter but I guess it is the same beer. Clear, dark ruby/chestnut colour. Thin beige head. Ugh. Oodles of diacetyl in the aroma. Sweet on the palate. Rather sticky malt. Lots of creamy toffee. Definitely some maple syrup. Unfortunately the overall feel is quite syrupy too. There is licorice but it is sweet confectionery licorice. Pontefract cake sweets. It does introduce a touch of herbal bitterness but it is too little, too late. Didn’t work too well for me. Don’t know whether the diacetyl aroma is the norm for this beer (nobody else seems to have mentioned it) but I’ll give it another chance if I see it again.

Notes from "brew weekend.". Definitely maple, some hints of vanilla and chocolate. Best of the weekend. A bit sweet overall but hides any off flavors.

Red tinted brown pour with a thin white head. Caramel malt aroma. Maple tinged caramel flavor. Slight sweet which fades to a bitter finish.

Well, there’s plenty of maple in this beer. Unfortunately, that’s about all this beer does well. Watery, bland, slightly astringent crystal malt.

Bottle shared by argo0: Pours a transparent dark amber mahogany with a well-lacing frothy off-white head. Aroma of toasty caramel and woody maple notes with a touch of graininess. Starts with decent fullness and toasty grainy caramel sweetness with a touch of bittering hops before a drier, earthy finish. An ok porter.

Pours deep mahogany into an English pint. Creamy off-white head recedes to skim surface leaving slight sheets. Chocolate malt aromas. Tingly with sweet maple syrup upfront. Lasting sour chocolate finish.
