| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 31, 2004 Bottel - 500ml. Pours a black body with rubyish glints. Its brownish frothy head tends to fade quickly. Fair malty aroma with hints of roasted coffee, chocolate, and brown sugar. Taste is OK, but it is a way too bitter and dry for a stout. I suppose that this may be due to clear bottling. Long oaky aftertaste. Not really bad, and probably better on tap. OKBeer (1159), Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Oct 26, 2004 500 ml clear bottle. Dark burgundy colour with a mostly diminishing frothy tan coloured head. Roasty, light chocolate, and vinous aroma with somewhat off-putting lactic and almost grainy notes. Dry, roasted, toasted grain, instant coffee, and chocolate flavours with a licorice and over-oaked chardonnay finish. Medium bodied, smooth but lightly oily mouthfeel. Weird. harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Oct 12, 2004 This really is a terrible stout in my opinion. I have not been overly impressed by this brewer or their importer Eurobubblies. Tastes like what would happen if you mixed Guinness and Newcastle together, and then ate a loaf of bread with it. Literally like burnt cold coffee with a piece of melted dark chocolate stirred in. JonMoore (1561), Loughborough, Leicestershire, England
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 3, 2004 Bottle from Tesco. Nearly black with occasional glimpse of ruby. Thin tan coloured head. Roasted malt aroma. Same for the flavour, with also some liquorice and coffee, and a nice bitter finish. Medium bodied, lightly carbonated and smooth. Quite good.
Looking at some of the other reviews and the low average, I would guess that this is suffering from at least an element of ’clear bottle deterioration syndrome’. ThomasE (5178), Copenhagen, Denmark

almost black in colour with a small beige head. The aroma is dominated by the roasted malts. Flavor is almost smoked with notes of coffee. Palate is rather thin. pintbypint (1004), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 18, 2004 500ml clear bottle. Black, ruby highlights, tan head comes on strong at first but thins out. Roasted aroma, also somewhat nutty. Roasty flavour with a bit of an iron like bite, some coffee notes. Dry finish. Medium bodied. No skunky notes at all, which is not typical of most Wychwood bottles I get. steve23mj (273), Essexville, Michigan, USA
| 1.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 3/5 | 2/10 | 1/5 | 3/20 | Sep 12, 2004 Pours black with quickly disappearing head. Foul skunky nose. The clear bottle has certainly tainted this brew. Flavor is something like homebrew gone bad. Sorry excuse for a stout. Awful beer. veronika (410), Sweden
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 2, 2004 Black with a nice brownish head. Aroma from tar, sweet fruits and cocoa. Flavor brings toffee, licorice and cream. Bitter and from coffee. Peppery finish.
