Ingredients: Marris Otter pale malt, Black malt, Crystal malt, Oats; Progress and Target hops.
"Black Wych was first brewed long before Jeremy Moss arrived as brewer at Wychwood. It is a 4.5 % abv brew of Maris Otter Black malt, a bit of Crystal and some oats. Hops are mainly Progress with a dash of Target, all of them copper hops with no late additions."

Reddish black, light brown head. Aroma is metallic. Flavour is slightly coffeish, though mainly tastes of cheap malt. Bad stout. Bottle.

(500 ml bottle, bought in Denmark). Very dark reddish brown colour, moderate thick tan head. Moderate but pleasant roasted aroma, hints of tar and old woodwork. Flavour is all roasted malts, a bit thin mouthfeel compared to some other stouts, but refreshing. No masterpiece, but nice enough.

Black, nice head. Aroma is roasted and from tar and cocoa. Flavor brings licorice and cocoa. Not as good as many other stouts.

Dark and thick in the glass although I thought it was thin in the bottle. Creamy head. Aroma is thin with light roasted notes. Body texture is not overly thick. Flavour is not complex, consisting of a light dry roastiness and smoke. Not a classic but better than many of the ratings.

(on both bottle and tap)I´ve tasted some bad beer, but never a rubish stout before now. This is, what we call, a thin cup of coffee. NO personality in this brew. It dosen´t even taste bad, it´s just so goddamn uninteresting, I coulden´t even finish the bottle. Btw what´s with that bottle anyway? Clear glass?

A dissapointment to say the least. I expected much more from this one, but like Phil Mickelson in a major, I was let down in the end. (Except for that one time, Phil.)

Skunky grain aroma. Clever label, but Wychwood has *got* to shake that clear bottle. Pretty dry, somewhat hoppy and rye cracker-like. Unremarkable. Body is too light. Coffee bitter finish goes on for a while.

This beer was the odd man out in this tasting. I like stouts...figured this would be a traditional one as it’s from the UK...bzzzzzzzt wrong! I didn’t expect much with arty label and the trendoid embossed clear bottle but it wasn’t skunked. Poured a lucid dark brown instead of the expected dead black color of traditional stouts....this looks more like weak porter. The pour (and I hated to defile such trendy packaging actually opening it and drinking the artfully wrapped contents) was anti-climatic...what you saw in the bottle was what you got in the glass...low carbonation, weak nose..some coffee some malt...very weak. Stated watery for a stout...medium-light malt body outbalanced by hops..finish comes too fast with nothing left on the tongue to impress but a bit of astringency. This would be a passable mega porter if it had more malt character. Not bad but not good and the package is overstated for the contents.
