turbothy (716), Bonn, Germany Jun 8, 2004 Points for style to Wychwood, but not for much else. This beer definately looks better than it tastes. Nothing offensive, just bland and way too thin for anything resembling a stout. Jeppe (2638), Ølbutikken, Denmark Jun 6, 2004 Foamy tan head on a dark brown body with a read gleam. Weak aroma of malt and a little coffee. Flavor is malty and grassy with notes of coffee and citrus. Mild but easy drinkable! PorterPounder (3131), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Jun 4, 2004 Updated: Jun 5, 2004Pleasantly surprised - expected skunk due to the clear bottle - but has a pleasant, slightly minty aroma. Dark licorice like pour with a mocha colored head with good lacing. Has some bittersweet chocolate notes in the flavor with trailing hop bitterness. Pickup some oatmeal hints as well. Not too complex, just a decent session stout. Mouthfeel is a tad too thin for a stout - my only real complaint. Beer Snob (378), Ontario, Canada May 21, 2004 Updated: Jan 12, 2006A thin stout, but not a bad brew. Looks and pours like a cola - head dissipates remarkably fast for a stout. Nice (again "mild") roasty aroma. The taste is good, albeit a bit on the mild side for a stout. Taste actually fades in mid-swallow leaving a decent bitter aftertaste. Not a traditional stout, but it quenches adequately. joeycapps (1466), Waterdown, Ontario, Canada May 7, 2004 Slightly transparent dark brown colour w/ beige head. Faint lightly roasty, licorice aroma, w/ a whiff of skunk. Thin feel. Flavour of licorice, milk chocolate, & diesel fuel. Astringent alcohol laden finish. Shades of malt liquor. beerbuzzmontreal (2909), Montreal, Quebec, Canada May 7, 2004 Black color with some brown hues. Mild aroma of roasted malt. Mild flavor of roasted malt. A very average stout, I’m not a fan of this brewery, the beers I’ve tasted from them range from ordinary to awfull : Hobgoblin, Fiddler’s elbow and this one. fiulijn (7150), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy May 4, 2004 Black color; thin creamy head. Reasonable aroma, roasted malt and a touch of liquorice. The taste besides the roasted malt and liquorice/caramel is not really surprising, and the final just strong. Above the average Stout, with no emotions. tupalev (2605), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 14, 2004 Bottle. Poured black, but held to the light and it appears more of a dark brown. Very off-putting aroma in the each of the three bottles I tried (on different occasions, bough from separate stores) – as mentioned, probably from the clear bottle. Flavour not bad, a certain nuttiness/licorice flavour that goes down pretty well. Slightly bitter finish, medium to thin body for a stout. Overall, average stout at best, but that smell will not bring me back.
